Google Webmaster Tools – A MUST!

As a website owner, one of your top priorities is going to be getting your site indexed and ranked by Google. People perform over 235 million searches a day with Google, so the potential to receive significant traffic from this search engine should be enough for you to invest the time to make sure it’s done right.

Google wants to fill its index with quality, error free websites that are beneficial and targeted to their searchers. Enter Google’s Webmaster Central Tools ….. http://google.com/webmasters. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s Google’s way of helping you with your website’s indexing. Not too long ago, it went through a redesign and upgrade process which made it more useful and easier to use than ever.

First thing you’ll need to sign in with is a Google account. Google requires an account to be able to use all of their free services, including Blogger and Analytics, so if youdon’t have one, now’s the time to register.

If you have multiple websites to list, that’s no problem. Up to 500 sites can be added all under one roof. You will need to perform what Google calls “site verification” for each site submitted. This proves to Google that you are the owner of the site before they release detailed information to you. At one time it was a lengthy process of cutting and pasting code into the head section of your index page or uploading a separate HTML file. Now they’ve streamlined the process and it’s all done with one click of an email.

If you use Blogger.com, “Webmaster Tools” can be enabled from within the Blogger dashboard under tools/resources. Once your sites have been submitted, you’ll have access to a whole suite of useful tools. The website is broken up into three main sections.

Site Configuration (Information about your site)
Your Site on the Web (Google data re: your site)
Diagnostics (Any problems Google had while indexing your site)

If your website has never received a decent ranking with Google, these numerous reports will help you in tracking down the problem. It’s truly an “eye opener” to see your site through the eyes of a search engine.

On the “Crawl Errors Page”, any errors Google encountered while crawling your site are revealed. The url’s not listed, and the types of problems such as restricted by robots txt, url’s that timed out, and unreachable url’s will be uncovered. If numerous pages of your site are not indexed, Sitemaps can also be submitted to help Google find and crawl all of the pages of your site.

If your website is not showing up in Google’s index, or you think it’s being penalized for some reason, you can contact Google from within the “tools interface” with a “reconsideration” request. This will ask Google to take another look at your site. Before submitting, make sure you’ve cleaned up any errors, and that you’re not in violation of any of Google’s webmaster guidelines.

Here’s a small sample of some other tasks that can be performed.

Keyword Research: The keywords page lists the most important words Google found when indexing your site. So you know what keyword/phrases your site is ranking for.
Who’s linking to your website.
Page rank for individual pages can be reviewed.
Change of address feature, which is useful when moving domains to let Google know.
Data can be downloaded in spreadsheet format in order to be analyzed and tracked.
Any RSS feeds can also be submitted as sitemaps.
Parameter Handling- Allows you to tell Google which url’s you want them to ignore.
Emails from Google’s Webmaster Tools can be forwarded to any email address you specify.

Contrary to popular belief, Google wants you to succeed online which is why they give you the tools needed to fix any problems, and make your site a search engine’s indexing dream. That’s not just good business for Google, it’s good for your website too.

Who Cares About Bounce Rate?

Do you know what my bounce rate is? Not unless I tell you. The bounce rate of a website is a mystery to its visitors unless the webmaster specifically announces their statistic, yet it is one of the most important measurements of the user experience. It tells a webmaster how much his visitors are enjoying his content. So, who cares about bounce rate? You do!

What is Bounce Rate

The bounce rate of your blog is basically the rate at which people leave your site after landing on its first page. So a blog that generates a lot of hits, but their visitors leave after a few seconds of glancing at the first page will have a high bounce rate. Blogs with visitors that stick around and browse through the content will have a lower browse rate. It is a statistic which measures the user experience. And Webmasters are in a constant struggle to decipher it’s mysteries and achieve that low percentage bounce rate.

Fix Your Blog, Not Your Readers!

A while back, I visited a blog and I saw a post about bounce rate. The author discussed how the bounce rate was a reflection of a poor marketing strategy. He argued to great effect that it meant that you were targeting the wrong audience. He discussed how bloggers with a high bounce rate should re-think their marketing strategy and look to more targeted blogs and forums in their own niche. They should give up using ad exchanges, since those traditionally generate high bouncing visitors. It was a very convincing discussion about shifting your focus to a more targeted audience. I read through the article, I thought about it, and I moved on. The problem was, it was wrong.

Think about it, if you have a high bounce rate, by definition, people are coming to your site! Why would you want to pick up and leave the spot where you’ve figured out how to bring in the traffic and start over someplace else? Should you add on to your marketing efforts? Of course you should, but you shouldn’t give up on a strategy that is working. If you are doing something that is bringing in traffic which just isn’t sticking around to read your content, you don’t need to dump your traffic, you need to change your blog.

Anyone who is clicking a link to go to your blog, should already have some idea of what your blog is about. Your incoming links should be surrounded by your keywords. If you have a banner ad going in a traffic exchange, it should invoke a strong sense of what your site is about. Take a look at my entrecard ad for example:

There’s absolutely no reason why someone clicking on my card wouldn’t know that my blog is about making money online. Do I get a few hit and run card droppers? Of course I do, but I also get a ton of traffic from entrecard that sticks around for 10-15 minutes.

Every marketer should be doing their job correctly with their incoming links. Surround them with your keywords, make sure that anyone who clicks on your link knows why they are coming to your site.

If you are doing that, and you still have a high bounce rate, it’s time to rethink how you are presenting your content.

It’s not your reader’s fault if they clicked on a link that says Make Money Blogging and they show up and find an unattractive site with a few of short 2 paragraph articles on the front page. Or perhaps, you are creating incredible content and knocking it out of the park with every article, but your content is getting dropped quickly to your archives and isn’t easily spotted by the reader. Or they click on your link only to see the spinning beach ball for 10-15 seconds while your site loads. Marketing in a different place isn’t going to solve these problems. It’ll just bring you a different audience that’ll bounce just as quickly.

So, What can I do to Lower my Bounce Rate?

I was faced with this very question when I was first starting my site. I already knew I wasn’t entirely happy with my theme and my layout. At the time, my bounce rate was astronomical. It was around 80-90%. I felt that my content was decent enough to bring in some readers, but my audience wasn’t sticking around to read my other posts. I had to find a way to lower my bounce rate.

There’s also one thing I dislike about a typical blog structure: that is that posts get pushed down into the recesses of your archive as you generate new content. I felt that this typical leads to a high bounce rate as the audience reads one or two posts, but gets tired of scrolling down that single page and trying to go through the archive.

So, I set out to make some changes with the mindset that I would focus on fixing my blog and lower my bounce rate. It was an experiment. Could I continue marketing the same way to my 80-90% bounce rate audience and effectively lower my bounce rate just by changing my blog?

The first thing I wanted to focus on was to find a theme with a better layout. At the time, I was using one of the free themes from WordPress, constructor. It was a simple theme that allowed plenty of options, however, I wanted something a little more robust and more visually appealing. During my forays of blog surfing, I had spotted some blogs that I stood out to me as having attractive themes. Generally, you can find the name of the theme in the footer of any blog, so I was able to quickly discover which themes I really liked. I ended up choosing the Hybrid theme, which is visually attractive, as well as SEO friendly.

Selecting a new theme was really only my first step to lowering the bounce rate on my blog. A nicer theme really just makes some visual changes. My feeling was that it would only have a minor effect on my high bounce rate. What I really needed to do was to promote more of my content on my front page. I wanted to make some changes so that my front page will show off my content, not just display a list of blog posts.

I’ve seen this done in several ways. Some blogs will go with a magazine style layout with a grid of 2-4 excerpts on the front page and then a list of posts following. Some may have a featured content excerpt right at the top of their blog. Many of these methods can be effective. The key for me was to do something that will show the reader more of my content on the front page. I elected to look for a featured post slider.

In the beginning, I searched around for a good plugin to create a carousel of featured posts on my front page. If anyone is looking to implement this feature on their site, I found a plugin called featurific that created an excellent magazine style featured posts slider.

Eventually, I was able to find a Hybrid child theme that included a built in slider.

I also made a point of setting up my front page so I had a categorized post listing following the content. This acts like an index where my readers can see some of my other posts listed by category to assist in guiding them to the content that they are looking for.

My third step was to focus on making sure to focus on the quality of my content. I wanted to make sure that all my points were conveyed clearly to my readers. I also made an effort to be creative with my posts and have some fun with creating my content.

I implemented all these features into my blog.

You’ll notice that I did not make any changes to my actual marketing strategy. I didn’t drop entrecard, I continued visiting and commenting on the blogs in my niche. I continued advertising on craigslist. In all respects, my audience remained the same. The only thing that I changed was my blog.

So, what was the result of my experiment? How did it affect my high bounce rate? I’m not going to tell you, I’m going to show you:

My bounce rate remains steady today under 10%. So, what do you think? Did my experiment work?

What did I Learn from my Experiment?

If you have a high bounce rate, change your blog, not your audience! In this case, I was able to lower my bounce rate dramatically without changing my audience at all. The only changes I made were internal to my blog to promote interest in the deeper articles. Showing more of my content and having a more visible directory structure really did wonders to lower my bounce rate.

This paper is a continuation of the writings on the google pagerank before. Where pagerank algorithms have an influence on several aspects of the website that we created. I will try to discuss this time is the influence of the number of pages from a website on google pagerank.

The contribution from inbound links pagerank will be distributed to all web pages that you have obtained the magnitude of each page re-determined the structure of your website.

If we got roughly the contribution of inbound links pagerank of 1, the value will be divided by all our website pages, not just the pages that receive inbound links. From here too we can see, each additional number of pages, will increase the divisor factor. The decline of inbound links pagerank contribution proportional to the number of pages that we add.

The solution is, each additional page on your website should also cultivated baclink additions to your site.

The larger the website the more backlinks you have an existing need for a whole page of your website has a pagerank of equitable (not just the index that have high pagerank but another page is very low pagerank.

55 Surefire Ways To Make More Money With Adsense

I recently talked about how you could increase your adsense revenue and also said that I’d be writing this article. It is a compilation of all the useful tips to make more money with google adsense.

It’s not rocket science and no matter how much you know, I’m sure you’ll learn a few new tricks below to improve the way you make money with adsense.

Please note that these tips are working and up-to-date. Also note that these tips are not ordered in any form and are only categorized. So let’s get this started:

The Ad’s Appearance

Blend the color of your ad with the page background: This is the most obvious tip repeated around the internet for ages. Basically, you just need to keep the border color and the background color the same as the color of the background where the ad lies. There might be a problem if your website has a page background gradient, in that case you should try putting it in a bordered container. I’ve written a post earlier about blending ads.
Match the color scheme of the ad with the color scheme of the web page: If your blog/website has boxes with white background and gray border then create an ad with the same color scheme to show that the ad is a part of the page and make it blend in with the template.
Use a background image to make the ad more prominent: This works best on blogs with lots of graphics. In a web page like this, putting an ad with blending colors will not do the trick. Be a little creative and put the ad on an image. For example, if you have a website about growing apples then you might want to pick an image of a red apple and then put an ad with red background and border and fit it in perfectly. This background image will help get some attention and more clicks.
Set the font according to your page: Along with other updates adsense has put in, it has also allowed us to change the default font to the one matching in your page. So check your page font and then change the ad with that accordingly. This also helps your ad look more as a part of the page.
Set the font size according to the rest of the text on the page: Same goes with the font size. If you have bigger font on the page then the click through ratio for the ad will be very low because it would look very awkward, so be sure to set that accordingly.
Increase the font size of the ad to make it a little more prominent: I tried this out and it really worked well. Basically, you just need to keep the font size for the ad a little bigger than the rest of the font on your page. Just like H1 and H2 headings get more attention on a page. The same will be for the ads, as the first step is to get the attention of the visitor. Just don’t set it to large.
Give the ad title the same color as other headings/links on the page: When a visitor comes to your page, he recognizes the color of headings and links on the page. There are many people who might not just recognize the links in the ad at first so you should always keep the link of the title in the ad settings to be the same as other links on the page. Although some people recommend to keep it as the default ‘blue’ links, I would only recommend that if your design is extremely simple.
Try not to use the rounded corners, the square corners draw more clicks and attention: After playing around on my websites, I found that rounded cornered ads get less clicks compared to square corners. So stick to squared corners unless it really messes up with your design, no need to get into this if you’re keeping the border to be the same as the background.
Try to keep the ad background as light as possible, the border and the title darker than that: Light backgrounds are always an assistance to readers. Especially if you have a website with a very dark background then there is no need to blend the ad. You should use a lighter shade of the same color and watch the clicks go crazy.
Don’t use Adsense’s default palettes: This is obvious because Google Adsense has been around for around 6 years now and most websites use the default palette of adsense. This has triggered an ad filter in the minds of people with that palette. So no matter what, try not to use the default palette.
The Ad’s Positioning
Try placing the ad within the content: Visitors are usually interested in the content, so putting it at a place within the content would increase the chances of the ad getting seen and then getting clicked.
Ads are most effective on the left side: Naturally, we always look from left-to-right when we read something because of the English writing standards. Similarly, ads are most likely to be seen when they’re on the left side rather than being in the right most. Ads in the middle are also better than the ones on the right.
Place images around the ad: This is a little old but works so darn well on websites that only an idiot will not try this if he had a website which is not all about content but pictures and videos or just a fun tool.
Try to put the adsense in the most keyword rich place: Generally, we are told that Google Adsense ads are fetched by looking at the content all around the page, but usually this is given less weight. Adsense tries to deliver ads most relevant to the place where it is found. So try to put the ad where the keyword is used the most. Please note, that I did not mean to spam the hell out of your article just to get good ads!
Try to keep all ads above the fold: Many users don’t even scroll down when the visit the page and if you want to make the maximum money, you cannot risk to leave out those people who don’t scroll down. Instead, put them above the fold so that everyone can see them and improve your chances of getting more clicks. For your information, above the fold means that part of the web page that is visible without scrolling down.
Don’t put advertisements in the footer: This is just a stupid reason to lower your click-through ratio and get smart-priced. If you’re mistaken the please understand that nobody clicks ads in the footer so please remove them!
Don’t put two ads together, put some content between them: This would definitely be a very stupid thing to do. Firstly, it gives a bad impression to the visitor and makes the page look like spam. Secondly, it might display irrelevant or the same ads on both units. So always putting at least a paragraph of content before putting another ad unit.
The Ad’s Size
A leader board works best on the top of the page: A leader board on the top of the page, preferably on the right side (Because there is usually a logo on the left side). Although you can experiment, my results were the best when I stuck to image-only ads for the leader-board instead of the text ads.
A Medium banner works best under the header: Right under the header (Or the first 100-250 pixels of the height), a medium 468 x 60 ad works wonderfully. This works good for both, text ads as well as image ads.
Horizontal link lists work best under the header navigation: Long 728 x 15 horizontal link lists get lots of clicks. This used to work great, in fact it still works great in terms of more clicks. However, you might give it a second thought after keeping the new Google Adsense interest-based advertising in mind.
Square link lists should only be used in the sidebar and best tried to match the format of other widgets: Since you cannot modify the size of ads except the ones available, adjust your sidebar to fit the size of the square link list. Also try to imitate the style of links on the link unit to other widgets in your sidebar, so that link list looks just like other links and their titles in the sidebar. This is what I call ultimate blending.
Large Rectangle and Medium Rectangle work best within the content: If you want maximum clicks, then just place a large or medium rectangle within the content preferably on the left side. This is the best known adsense ad optimization. After all, a little extra money won’t hurt right?
Sky scrapers and Wide sky scrapers work best in sidebar: Putting them a little way down the right or left sidebar works great. But be sure that these are text-only ads. Image ads don’t work here.
The Ad’s Type
Image ads get twice as much clicks as text ads on media blogs: By media blogs, I meant blogs which are primarily about pictures and videos and other graphical forms of presentation. On a place like this, text-ads would be like a cyclist in a nascar race. Hence, to match the graphics around always use image-only ads here.
Text ads are much more effective when embedded in the content: When you have articles or post or other information presented in the form of text, embedding text-ad rectangles works the best.
Test, Test and Test: You never know what might just work great so always keep testing. This might seem to be contradicting to number 24 but I’ll explain that. For example, if you have a post about pictures of britney spears and you have an ad near it that reads: ‘Contact Britney Spears’ or ‘Meet Britney Spears’, then you can imagine how many clicks that would get. So be sure to test for once at least to see what works best.
Generally, image ads grab more attention: Even if you want to grab some attention within the content then you might want to try image ads because generally they do grab more attention and if they are good they will attract more clicks. You can check that out with the adsense sandbox.
The Ad’s Tracking
Always put a custom channel on the ad to track that which ones work out to be the best: You have got to be missing out a lot if you don’t use custom channels for each and every different ad unit that you have. The real secret to adsense is optimizing and getting the most revenue out of the same traffic and space. You can never decide what works best until you put custom channels to see what works best.
Integrate your adsense account with your analytics account: If you haven’t done this already, you can find the link on the adsense dashboard after you create a google analytics account. This is very useful in tracking.
Check out which pages make the most money and try to replicate the success of those pages: This gives you a chance to see that what works the best. Since you’re the one who owns the website, you know what you did and then you can do that again to replicate that success to make more money. I mean that would be called making easy money online, how long does it take to replicate something you’ve done?
Check out which kind of traffic gives you the most adsense revenue and try to increase that: Normally, this would be search engine traffic but you can always see that for yourself. Why listen to me and not see it for yourself?
Check your adsense referrers and try to stabilize your revenue: On your Google Analytics account there is an option called adsense referrers. When you click that, you can see that which websites sent the visitors that clicked ads the most. You can use that information to try to increase visitors from that website.
Try to improve your website in the search engines to get more clicks: If your pages are getting most ‘adsense-clicking’ traffic from search engines then try to increase that traffic by doing some search engine optimization on your website. Concentrate on getting more backlinks to increase your website’s overall authority, you can read that on my article about how to get backlinks.
Try to improve position for search phrases that generate most revenue: You can also see that which keywords the visitors came from who clicked the most ads. Chances are that the nature of that query attracts the visitors to ads. There are also chances that you are not ranking number 1 for that, so you can always increase your earnings by ranking better for those key phrases.
Start filtering the ads on pages by looking at what kind of ads work on what kind of page: Unlike custom channels, google analytics also shows you which pages generated the most revenue. This way, you can carry out site-wide experiments and then see what works best on which page and then keep the ones that work good and remove the rest.
Keep track of the click-through rates before and after amendments to find out which worked better: With Google Analytics, you get a more in-detail view of the performance of your ads. This way you can make amendments on a page and then see whether it worked for good or for worse. It is demonstrated in in the form of statistical graphs which makes it very easy for us.
Use the website analyzer on google analytics to see where most visitors click and then try to replace that place with ads: The website optimizer is a great tool and it tells you about the places where your visitors click the most when the visit that page. You can use this information to substitute that with ads and make more money off that.
The Page design
Don’t overdo the designing: I don’t really think that adsense ads work so well with very ‘fancy’ designs. The simpler, the better.
Keep the background as light as possible, preferably white: I’ll share a secret with you. While some might give you other nasty techniques to make more money with adsense, I’ll just say: Give the user what he wants plus a good experience on your website. So make the background light, this is an aid to easy reading. Get the idea?
If the background is darker then make the background of the ad lighter than it: I discussed the same thing earlier and I’ll say it again. If you have a dark background like black then don’t make the ad black as well. In fact, make the ad background gray or white and this will get a lot of clicks. There are some times when you just don’t blend the ads.
Experiment fancy containers for the ad to see which one works best: Let your creativity go wild. Let it travel around the vast horizons of your thinking to bring out some cool yet silly things. After that, just put them to work and then keep experimenting till you know you’re one step away from busting your brain. That’s when you’ll know what works best. By the way, I was talking about creating good background images to place your ads on.
A very simple design with neatly blended ad can result in a high CTR: Yes, you heard it right. Our normal thinking is that fancy graphics and flash animations are a very cool thing. If you think from the perspective of a visitor, you will not think the same. Same as point 34, keeping a simpler design to enhance a better user interface will result in more revenue in the long run.
Create several imitations of the square link list: This is something you need to do with your sidebar. Even a newbie CSS learner could write a few lines of code to imitate the adsense link list. I’ve seen thousands of websites do this. Since people usually click less on ads, this way they’ll switch of the ad alert in their brain and click the ad.
Miscellaneous
Put adsense on those pages which get most of their visitors from Google: Now here comes the important part. We all know that mostly adsense ads are clicked by searchers. So you should put adsense on those pages that get most of their traffic from google, yahoo or bing. Now, if you’re thinking why should you do this, the answer is pretty simple. You should know that when people don’t click on your ad after some time you get smart-priced which means that you will not get the same amount per click that you usually get. So this helps eliminate the chance of your ad being seen by those who will not be interested in it generally.
Show google ads to searchers only: While the first step was more general and was all manual. In this, I’ll let you know about a nifty trick to show google ads to be seen by searchers only. If you’re using wordpress, just add the following code before and after your adsense code and then it will only show to google searchers:

Test google ads and then decide whether they’ll be worth putting: Use the google adsense sandbox to check what ads will display for a certain keyword or on a specific page. You can check out the adsense sandbox. This is very useful as it can let you test out what kind of ads will display before you actually put them.
Look for better paying keywords and use them to pull high paying ads to make more money: First you need to open google adwords keywords tool. Next, you need to enter the primary keyword. When it shows all the keywords then select ‘Show Estimated Avg. CPC’ from the drop-down menu. Now just order them in descending order of the Average CPC and there you are with the most profitable keywords. Try to use them within content to experience the highest paying ads. You might also want to check them out using the adsense sandbox.
Use the ad filter to filter all ads which pay very low amounts like $0.05~: There used to be big lists around. You can still google them and find the list of low-paying advertisers. Once you’re logged in, first click on ‘Adsense Setup’ after that click on ‘Competitive Ad Filter’ and then paste the list of those websites in the big text box that you’ll see on that page. There you are, you’ve filtered all the low-paying advertisers.
Putting adsense on a website after it gains stability in the search results: This is very effective. Don’t put adsense on a new site. This has been self-tried by me and I only put adsense when the site gains a stable position in the search results. If you put adsense from day one, google thinks that you are probably in for the quick money and might send your site to the sandbox which will stop you from earning for about a year.
Try to keep one page more focused on one topic: I usually try to avoid putting adsense on pages which are very general and not focused on a specific topic. The reason is that the ads will not be so targeted and then there will be less chances of getting click-throughs. Having a low click-through rate might result in getting smart-priced which results in very low revenue per click.
Create more and more content, grab out for as much keywords as possible in different pages: Try to create targeted separate pages for each and everything you find on the topic of your website. Being more targeted increases the chances of getting clicks on that page and would also increase the overall authority of your website on that topic.
Don’t put adsense on every page, especially if you have a personal blog: You really wouldn’t want to put adsense on a post where you’re talking about your trip to cousin’s house. Reason being, a normal person wouldn’t be intersted in that topic. Those who will be interested in knowing about your trip will definitely not be interested in the ads. So, it is just another reason to get smart-priced.
Avoid non-english characters to avoid irrelevant ads (Via Eric Giguere): I found this to be stating that putting Non-English characters like a french last name on your page could result in multi-lingual ads which would be a really bad thing if you have an English only website. So try to reduce Non-English characters in your page to get the best ads.
According to Google’s new interest based advertising, recommend your visitors not to click the ads if they have no interest in it: I really do not have much knowledge on this but as far as I heard, google recently released their interest based advertising. For getting more revenue, you should advice your visitors not to click the ads if they are not interested in them. You never know, a few people who are not interested click the ads and adsense bans you for invalid clicks.
3 ad blocks per page maximum: This has also been discussed by google representatives and I think it is also in their TOS. Abide by this rule, it is for your own good. Personally, I’ve never put more than 2 ad blocks on a single page and 90% of the times there is only 1 ad block on the page. Trust me, 1 or 2 are better than 3 or 4.

There you are a big fat list of ways to make money on the internet, possibly the biggest one around (I’m guessing). In fact, I could have put this on a pdf and sold an ebook but I decided to give it away for free.

1. Reverse Psychology This is where you encourage people to do the opposite of what you really do want them to. For instance, if you want them to sign up for your marketing newsletter say something like “If you’ve got all the sales, visitors and profits you need, don’t sign up for our SuccessNewsletter”. Just remember that people don’t want to be told what to do, or what not to do, so out of sheer cussedness, and a helping of curiosity they will click.

20 Linkbaiting Techniques

As I’ve mentioned numerous times already in this series on linkbaiting - ‘linkbait’ is a term that is used to describe a variety of practices that have the purpose of generating links to your site.

It is impossible to come up with a definitive list of what these practices are as they are only limited to the imagination of website and blog owners.

Below I outline 20 of the more common linkbaiting techniques that I’ve seen (and used).

A couple of things first:

Please note that in describing them I don’t necessarily endorse them all. It’s worth saying up front that like many aspects of the web, the tactics that people use vary quite a bit in terms of what they see as ethical or acceptable behaviour.
Also note that some people use these techniques with the motivation of getting links where as others do them without such motivation. While they are described by some as linkbait many of them are just activities that bloggers and webmasters use in their day to day work.

Here are 20 linkbaiting techniques that are commonly used (please note - points in the following list are not mutually exclusive, there is overlap between many of them).

Tools - give other website owners a useful, fun or cool tool that they can use on their blog that points back to your own. A prime example of this was the blog worth tool that Dane from Business Opportunities developed that tells how much a blog is worth based on Technorati’s API (used by thousands of bloggers (google shows 27,000+ links pointing to it) - most of whom posted the button that the tool provides (with a link back to his blog).
Quizzes - quizzes, surveys and tests have long been popular with web users and if you’re smart about the way you design them (giving people a button to place on their site for example) they can be quite viral. I ran my recent ProBlogger quiz as a quick test of a plugin and saw it bring in quite a few links - if I’d given participants a button and given it some more thought it would have been even more successful).
Contests - organise something for people to participate in and you’ll find that some will. Add a competitive element to it and offer a worthwhile prize and you might just find the participation rate increases. My recent group writing projects (with prizes) is an illustration of this (although they’re not strictly competitions). Over 300 people submitted entries in my lists project and in the current one there’s already 150+, most of whom linked back to ProBlogger to show their participation (even though I didn’t make it compulsory to do so).
Be First - if you’re the first in your niche to do, say or be something you’re likely to be linked to heavily by others in your niche. Being second, third, forth…. in your niche to do, say or be something will generally have less impact. For example take a look at the success of the Million Dollar Homepage in contrast to the main thousands of copycat pixel advertising sites that followed. Another example was the One Red Paperclip guy.
Scoops - related to being first is breaking a story in your niche. Break a big enough story and the amount of others that link to you giving you credit for being the source of their own news posts can be quite massive.
Exposé - similarly - expose a fraud or scammer and you can create a real buzz around your blog and become part of the news itself. I’m sure there are a few political bloggers out there that would identify their ‘big break’ as exposé blogging when they exposed one politician or another of doing or saying something that showed them for what they’re worth.
Awards - At the beginning and end of every year in blogging circles a silly season of awards happens (last year there were so many that I created ProBlogger’s Awards for Blog Awards. While not all awards work well, many do particularly well at generating a buzz (with lots of traffic and lots of incoming links). They do it on a number of levels. In the first part they generate links from those hoping to be nominated - then they generate links from people who have been nominated who try to get votes - then they generate links from winners showing off and others complaining about the winners…. the waves of incoming links to a good awards can be quite fascinating to watch.
Lists - I’ve written extensively on lists before so won’t go into it in much detail - but of late many examples of blog posts that seem to get a lot of link attention are very list oriented pieces. There is just something about a list that people latch onto, digest and want to pass on to others (just check out digg and delicious and you’ll see plenty of examples). Of course these days list posts are a dime a dozen so you’ll need to make your list useful and stand out in some way. If you do (and you have a little luck) you’ll be well on the way to being linked to.
Humor - some of the best linkbait that I’ve seen has a humorous edge to it. Whether it be a cartoon (Hugh does this well - I’ve seen his blog linked to numerous time today alone), a funny photo, a story or even a title that gets a laugh - people enjoy humor and like to pass it on (it’s something we’ve been doing for centuries in the stories/jokes we tell).
Make someone famous - I’m still trying to get my head around this one but one of the reasons why I think my group projects seem to do well is that they offer people the opportunity the chance of being discovered (of course the prizes help - but some people feed back to me that the main reason they participate is the traffic and incoming links that it can potentially bring). Another example of this is BlogTopSites.com (and other sites like it) which rank pages in different categories. I suspect that a lot of people participate in these sites (and link to them) because they want to see how they rank with other blogs and have hopes of climbing the rankings.
Create belonging/community - people like to belong and they desire community. Give them a place where they do have community (or at least feel that they have it) and they’ll quite often link to it from their blogs. For example, I find here at ProBlogger that people quite often link to the comments sections of my posts (more specifically to comment threads that they themselves have participated in) rather than the post itself. I also see this illustrated by a lot of bloggers who participate in (and link to) discussion forums.
Design - those people clever enough to design something that others use in large numbers can do quite well out of it in terms of incoming links. For example a good blog theme/template (with an inbuilt link to it’s designer) that is picked up and used widely can create an avalanche of incoming links. I’ve seen a number of designers who have had their work picked up as default themes at WordPress.com comment upon the many many thousands of links that this brought them.
Rants - there is something about a well written, well argued and passionate rant that is very link worthy. People get stirred up when you get passionate and the links will often flow as a result. Of course when you write a rant you need to expect that people will react both positively and negatively (and there is often fallout).
Controversy - similarly, controversial posts tend to get strong reactions from those reading your posts. I discovered this very early in my blogging when I innocently wrote a short piece with some of my thoughts on the Iraq war on a Christian blog I was running at the time. I didn’t expect any reaction and was surprised to wake up the following morning to find it had caused a massive stir in the ‘God Blog’ community with hundreds of bloggers linking up either to support or criticise what I’d written. Again - controversy brings in all kinds of responses. Don’t do it just for the sake of being controversial unless you have very thick skin!
Attack - while we’re talking about controversy - another common way to get attention for yourself is to pick a fight with another blogger in the hope of tempting them (and others) to ‘bite’ back. I’ve seen this approach get a number of emerging bloggers on the map in the past 12 months - but would warn those wanting to give it a go that there can be significant fallout from the approach and that you’ll want to consider whether you want to build your reputation around your snarkyness or some other characteristic. If you’re going to build a blog purely on snark you need to be ready for the snark to come back at you and should realize that it’s difficult to sustain.
Shock - ok, I’m obviously pooling these together but using shock tactics is yet another linkbaiting technique that some people use quite effectively. People have been doing this for years in other mediums (’shock jocks’ in Radio for example) so it is no wonder that they’re doing it on the web as well. Shocking via language, extreme views, showing controversial or titillating pictures or video etc all fall into this category. Once again, I’m not really into this type of blogging and wouldn’t want to build a reputation around it - but it’s definitely a tactic that some use with real effect.
Research and Statistics - researching a topic that has popularity and that people can use in some way is another effective way to generate incoming links. While it’s may not be strictly research - Dave Sifry’s periodic ‘state of the blogosphere‘ posts are widely linked to and quoted from because he is presenting interesting statistics that directly apply to something people are passionate about.
Give something away - think about the buzz that Oprah created when she gave every audience member a car a couple of years back and you see the power of what happens when you give something away. While giving every reader you have an extravagant gift like that might not be possible - the clever giving of gifts can definitely create a buzz.
Usefulness - writing something ‘useful’ is a pretty general thing to say (and would be incorporated above in many places) however I think it’s worth saying. The more useful your content is to people the more likely they are to want to pass it on to others. Show someone how to do something, give them knowledge, entertain them and/or improve their lives and/or be better at something and you’ll be amazed at how they’ll rave about you.
Cool Factor - as I look at what seems to get linked to by bloggers I’d say that a fair proportion of it isn’t particularly ‘useful’ (or anything else in this list) - it’s just ‘cool’. Of course ‘coolness’ is difficult to define or achieve (it seems to just happen) but if you are cool (or do something that is) you might just find yourself getting linked up to.

Like I said in my introductory paragraphs - a definitive list of linkbaiting techniques (and examples) is impossible to achieve. The above 20 types of linkbait are just the beginning of the ways that bloggers get links from other sites (sometimes they do it intentionally with the motivation to get links and sometimes its just byproduct). 1. Categorize your blog according to things you understand.

Every category that you define for your blog should be a necessity. It is good to limit the number of categories on your blog to a maximum of five. Every post you write must fit into any of the five categories. It is not worth while to define a category for two or three posts.
4. Never define Miscellaneous as one of the categories on your blog.
No blog post on your blog should be termed as miscellaneous. If you have something to share with your readers, it should be valuable. Readers spend their valuable time reading your blog posts, it should be worth it. Write articles which are worth sharing with your readers, otherwise do not publish articles which are not worth your readers time and effort.

I read A LOT of articles online and lately I have come across quite a few that are either poorly researched, written or proofread. I make it through about 2 sentences on pages like this. Maybe people are just too busy. Maybe there is a language barrier. Maybe people just don’t give a darn. Every article I write is written to provide information or entertainment for my readers. I always hope they take something away with them. Hopefully they will enjoy it so much they will pass it on. I Love when an article goes viral.

One of the best ways to drive massive traffic to your site in a short period of time is through the creation of viral content or linkbait. Linkbait is created with the sole purpose of driving more traffic to your website through links and bookmarks.

Content that is successful in this regard typically does not have any indication of being linkbait. You need to make sure that your content is very useful to readers and that it is not an obvious attempt at creating linkbait. The moment that a visitor comes to your site, they must be able to see the value that your content provides for them.

Keep it Simple

12 Search Engine Optimization Tips

I was recently speaking with someone I do business with that I also consider a friend who recently started a blog and has been working on trying to increase search engine traffic for his specific niche. I decided to copy most of the contents of the email that I sent over to him in order to help him achieve some of the results he is looking for, some of you might find the information for increasing search engine results, Google Page Rank and Alexa ratings somewhat useful.

Please keep in mind that the information I sent over was specific to that person and their project, certain things below will be completley useless to some of you or simply not what your looking for, an example of that would be #1 in the list below.

1. Make sure you have an accurate listing with Google Local

2. Install the “Alexa Toolbar” on any of your office computers, ask friends and family that visit your site to install it to (I should really do this). Visits from computers that have the Alexa Toolbar installed will increase your Alexa Ranking, it will of course show you your Alexa ranking in the bottom right of your browser as well so you can track that growth or at least know where it is at on a continuous basis.

3. Have friends and family visit Alexa.com and write a review for your site, I did one to give you an idea. Also make sure they rate their comment submission as well.

4. Developer Hut “Ping Tool” submit your site with the quick tool on the right of this page

Purchasing this service submits your website to 300 directories, this creates “Backlinks“, backlinks are a big piece of the pie and extremely important in regards to influencing your Google Page Rank.

In every post that you write make sure that you have a link back to your main website (index page) in the article, if you say something like “I really enjoy mixed martial arts and love to write articles about MMA” link the “articles about MMA” to your main page. *This text is different and as you can see is based on a website that deals with mixed martial arts.

7. Google likes blogs that share, or that link within their own website. Keep that in mind when writing your posts, link to your other articles within your site.

8. Write short post titles that are directed at the keywords your looking to snatch up

Doing so will increase your keyword density throughout your site and it gives the curious more to look at increasing someone’s time on your site.

That stuff is all a good start, I will shoot you another email in a few days with some plugins (assuming your blog is a Wordpress blog) that can be installed, once installed these plugins will increase your search engine rankings as well as search term pop. 5 Simple Ways to Increase Blog Comments

Posts that inspire comments from your audience can become part of what makes your blog more popular, and can keep it that way if the comments keep coming.

Right or wrong, the number of blog comments you have is seen as an indication of how successful your blog is.

Here are some ways to increase the amount of commenting that takes place in your blog.

1- Make it as easy as possible for visitors to comment.

That means taking down every barrier to commenting except spam control, until comments start to rise.

That includes:

•letting visitors leave comments without logging in
•removing all authentication processes such as captchas and verifying their email address,
•turning off moderation, as well as letting readers know that comments aren’t moderated,
•installing plugins or tools that will allow them to log in with Twitter or Facebook profiles or integrate their comments on those sites with your site
•getting rid of anything else that slows down the commenting process. Until you have a high traffic blog, you probably won’t have to worry about anything other than the basic level of spam.
So keep a cautious eye, but get rid of restrictions one by one and see if the increase in participation after a week is worth a few off-topic entries. Not only can you delete those later, but, you can re-enable any of anti-spam measure the instant the volume of spam gets out of hand.

2- Find out what people want to know on your topic and write about that constantly.

If your sites is about pet lovers, and people want to know all about organic dog and cat food, write about it. It might not be your favorite topic, but if it brings you engaging traffic, make it a regular conversation point. Your site is there to serve your population – at least that’s what it should be about if you want your blog to help you make sales.

3- Stay on topic.

Even if you have a themed day that’s a little outside your topic area (like our Tool Time Fridays with Morgan Lighter) make sure all those posts can still relate back to your central subject.

For example, the other day, Morgan wrote about a tool that can turn YouTube videos into a format compatible with iTunes. Put that together with some of my tips on how to get traffic with web video and you have a whole new use for recordings you uploaded to YouTube and other sites.

If you have trouble coming up with something to write about, your topic may be too narrow. If you can’t seem to pare down the number of available topics to one over-riding theme, your topic may be too broad. It’s okay to shift or widen your focus to fix that problem, but once you pick a final topic, stick with it.

4- Post regularly to become part of your reader’s daily habits.

People are habitual creatures. They’ll most likely find your site and include it in their new habits through doing one of their old habits.

Today, someone got up, brushed their teeth, got ready for work, went to their office, read their email, then the news or their RSS feeds (or both.) If they found your site through some other blog’s feed they read, and decided to add you, whenever you have a new entry, they’ll at least read the headline.

That opportunity only comes up each time you publish. After that first six weeks, it’s not as important that you’re doing so daily. But you should be putting up posts in a predictable fashion IF you want regular commenters. Whether it’s approximately every 24 hours, or every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:21 pm isn’t as important as making it a regular occurrence.

5- Leave an open-ended question or query at the end of each post.

If you look at Chris Pirillo’s blogs over at Lockergnome, instead of ‘Leave a Reply’ above the comment form, it often says something like ‘What do you think?’

In addition, when you create a post, the last sentence of your post can be a question to your audience that allows them to continue the conversation. If all other barriers are removed from commenting, sometimes the issue is that you’ve done such a good job writing the article that there’s nothing else to add. Turn your fantastic monologue into dialogue by asking a question, point blank.

Leaving your post open to input stimulates conversation online in the same way.

Remember, blog comments aren’t necessarily a measure of how well your blog is doing. But a responsive community can help indicate whether you’re on the right track.

6 Tips to Use Facebook for Your Business

Recently, all the major news websites announced that Facebook has passed Fox, Ebay and Amazon on its way to the respectable fifth place in the Top 50 U.S. web properties list. More and more small business owners and advertisers seem to understand the power of social media marketing and divert some of their attention and budgets towards this relatively new medium. However, many of us just don’t know how to approach these tools and how to utilize them best for our business. As an early adapter, I have joined Facebook almost immediately after it allowed general public access, but it was only around 18 months ago that I began to understand its power and to study its business capabilities.

Here are some initial tips to get you started:

Always Use a Real Profile Photo - The whole idea of social media is the building of relationship and “friendships” over the web. Your users and future customers want to see the person behind the username/brand. Your profile photo is the first contact point with your potential audience, and as such should be both representative and personal at the same time.
Always Be Interesting - people use Facebook on a daily (and even hourly) basis. If you want to be always on your potential customers’ mind, make sure that you update your status at least once a day (this is the ’What’s on your mind?’ sentence in the top of the page). Make sure that you link to interesting content, provide important insights, connect to other similar friends etc. The more you appear on their wall the more they will remember you as an authority and a person to trust for interesting information. Of course, the rule of thumb here is to do everything in the right proportion in order not to be considered a spammer or a Persona non grata.
Use Facebook Groups - Facebook provides two main platforms to gather “fans” or “followers” (people who likes your product or your brand and want to be updated about it). I will talk about the Facebook Pages in the next point. Facebook Groups is a powerful tool to create a (guess what…) group of people, all interested in one cause/product/brand/issue. While your first instinct would be to go and establish a group for your brand, STOP! Do not forget that people nowadays are very much aware of any direct marketing attempt and usually will not cooperate. So, the right way to use groups, in my opinion, would be to organize a group around a non-commercial cause (such as “Job Search Tips”). This will increase your attractiveness towards users who may have never heard of your brand but still would like to get job search tips. to know more about groups I suggest the following post from Read Write Web.
Use Facebook Pages - Facebook Pages are what Facebook uses for business. This is where I recommend to introduce your brand. Here you can put your logo, your brand description and related commercial information. You can add “Fans” to your page and communicate with them through “Updates”. The secret here is to create discussions and conversations around your product/brand. The goal is to reach a situation where this page is running by itself - conversations and discussions are initiated by the users between themselves. This is a great tool to investigate what people have to say about your brand and to get first hand feedback without the need to conduct expensive focus group researches. Of course, it takes time to build such traction, but for this you have to be patient and follow the steps suggested on a daily basis to eventually succeed in reaching this goal.
The Three C’s: Content-Communicate-Community - This is the modern replacement for the traditional marketing four P’s formula. Nowadays, if you don’t produce constant CONTENT, if you don’t COMMUNICATE it with right tools, and if you don’t create a COMMUNITY around your brand, reaching your target audience and selling them your product or services will become almost impossible. So remember, create quality content, send it along the social media river and dont forget to gather around you community of fans or followers that will wait for your next content and more importantly - will be an avid advocate of your brand.
Cross-Collaboration - Once we thought that all the social media tools are competing with each other. We now see the next step of social media - a trend of cooperation and collaboration between almost all the social media websites. The most recent step in this direction is the release of Facebook’s Twitter App. What it actually means is that the social media tools allows you to post your content simultaneously in front of hundreds of millions of people with one click! So, make sure you have an account on Twitter (and don’t forget to follow me…), Linkedin, FriendFeed, StumbleUpon, Digg, Delicious, etc. It’s FREE and you won’t regret it.

5 New AdSense Tips from Google Team to Increase Your Revenue

During the last five weeks in June and July Google team shared a weekly post about optimizing your blog in order to increase your AdSense revenue. Those tips what they called as “Speeding Up in Slowdown” were presented in five educational series. Now as the series is completed i would like to share it here with you in case you missed those valuable tips. Those five tips are: Understanding Your Business, Retaining Your Visitors, Attracting More Visitors, Increasing Your Revenue Potential and Attracting More Advertiser Spend. Of those five tips my favorite is the fourth one since it’s more practical and easy to implement.

In this post, i’ll share the summary about each single tips and how do i think about it and you may check the details of the tips on Google AdSense blog. Anyway, those five tips now have been compiled by Google team into a single guideline as part of the AdSense help page.

Understanding Your Business

In this first section, Avinash Kaushik, the Analytics Evangelist at Google presented his idea about analyzing your blog content to find which part of your blog content that attracts most for your visitors and which part needs to be improved. All of this you can do using Google Analytics. And with the integration of Google Analytics and AdSense you can also find out where Adsense performs best on your blog.

Well, this is really interesting and absolutely will be useful if you know how to work with Google Analytics. However many blogger i’m sure don’t really expert in dealing with Google Analytics. The best you can do is probably to increase your blog page views and lower the bounce rate. It means your blog visitors will spend more time on your blog that will give more chances to click your AdSense ads. For the AdSense on Google Analytics, as far as my experience it’s somehow doesn’t match with the result on Google AdSense report. So i don’t really depend on this at the moment.

Retaining Visitors

In this section, Ricardo Prada, a user experience researcher at Google presented how blog design and SEO are not the key factor for a blog to be successful. He tried to emphasize that helping your blog visitors to achieve what they need is the most important factor to make them stay longer on your blog. In correlation with that the ads position supposed not to distract your blog visitors experience.

Personally i don’t really agree with the first idea. Blog design and layout are two factors that supposed to work in synergy. A great blog design without good task layout will be useless. But a blog with great task layout and contents but has cluttered design will somehow also distract the visitors. But i strongly agree about the ads placement. Lately we can easily find so many blogs crowded with banner ads every single corner of the blog and i’m sure it’s not a good practice.

Attracting More Visitors

In the next section, Jack Herrick, the founder of wikiHow explained about attracting more visitors to your blog. However personally i think it’s so cliche and too abstracts. A site like wikiHow is not comparable with a single blog. Like most blog tips, attracting more visitors always started with “Producing great content”, everybody knows that. So Jack supposed to be more details about what idea he wants to present.

Increasing Your Revenue Potential

Well, this part is my favorite. I have seen this kind of tips so many times but there’s always something new to learn. In this section, Mel Ann and Tim, two AdSense Optimization Specialist, explain in details about how to optimize your AdSense revenue potential in 5 simple steps. If you new in AdSense i encourage you to exercise this tips and see how it can improve your AdSense results.

Understanding Your Business

I was expecting another great and practical tips to close the five-week educational series, but it’s far from what i expected. Instead of posting a practical tips, Christian Ashlock, the manager of AdSense optimization team explained about how to attract more advertiser spend. Again, it’s just another cliche tips like the third one. Personally i don’t really like it and seems not really applicable to me.

Finally, though this is a great guidance but still lack of practical things that i’m sure will be more make sense and acceptable by small AdSense users. Google Gets What Google Wants

As I said earlier, not all links are created equal. Google wants to see certain kinds of links into your web site before it will rank the site for your selected keywords. Those 3 things are:

A Variety of Link Texts

If all of the links aimed at your site contain the same link text, Google will either discount or ignore all of your links. Google wants to see a diversity in the text of the links that are pointed at your site.

My tireless research has shown that using a 60% / 30% / 10% linking pattern works best. That means that about 60% of your links will contain your primary keywords, 30% will contain your secondary keywords, and 10% will contain your third-choice keywords.

Geographic Diversity

If all of your links come from web sites that are hosted in the same place, on the same IP address, or even on different Class C IP addresses that are too geographically close to each other, Google will discount or ignore the links.

This network perfectly mimics a natural network of links, because that’s exactly what it is! There are thousands of sites owned by many hundreds of web masters. The sites that your site will perform 3-way link exchanges with are located all over the globe, on a very diverse variety of IP and Class C addresses.

A Steady Growth in Links

If hundreds of links suddenly appear in Google that are all aimed at your site, Google will not count the value of those links for many months. This process of withholding link value is known as the “Google Sandbox”. When this happens, you have to wait anywhere from 3 months to a year to see the value of your incoming links applied in Google’s ranking of your site.

My system spreads links slowly, at the rate of 0 to 8 links per day. That means that there will be some days where no new links are added, and some days where as many as 8 are added — which is how natural linking occurs. Once your site reaches 250 inbound links, the process stops. This usually takes about 60 days.

How It Works

The system uses a method of linking known as 3-way linking (http://www.daylightcafe.com/details/206/). Unlike the traditional one-way link, where only one site benefits, with a 3-way link (http://www.daylightcafe.com/details/206/) all 3 sites get what Google sees as a one-way link to their web site.

In the old reciprocal link method, site A linked to site B and site B linked back to site A. Google does not value that kind of link very much at all anymore. Google wants to see one-way links (or at least what it believes are one-way links).

In a 3-way link setup (http://www.daylightcafe.com/details/206/), site A links to site B, site B links to site C, and site C links to site A (as shown in the graphic above). This is where the power of this system lies.

Google Ranks Your Web Pages Not Your Site

You often hear website owners claiming that their website’s PageRank (PR) has increased or decreased, this is a misconception. PR is all about your web page/s and not about your website. If your PR applies to your website as a whole, then all your web pages should have the same PR. Most websites’ PR can be found in their main domain (www.yoursite.com) very common, but when you move to another web page, the PR drops down to zero. Why? Because the inbound links they have acquired are all pointing to their homepage (main domain), take note home-PAGE, and not to a specific web page.

I’ll show a typical example, let’s visit “www.dailyblogtips.com”, when you go to its home-PAGE, the PR that you will see is 6/10, wow that’s high (at the time of this writing), go the “www.dailyblogtips.com/about” page and its PR drops to 5/10, go to a newly posted article and the PR drops to 0/10. As you can see, each web page has a different PR, this is evaluated by Google from the quality of links pointing at those web pages. And it’s quite obvious, from the word “Page-Rank” itself which is self-explanatory, the rank applies to a page. So next time you hear other website owners claiming about their website’s PR, keep in mind it’s their homepage that’s being ranked, not the whole website itself. Secret Little Tip On How To Increase Your Alexa Page Rank

Today, after 2 lattes and a shot of espresso, I have decided to share with you guys one of the shortcuts to Alexa Page Ranking success. No, I’m not gonna sell you anything. I’m sharing this because, well, let’s just say I’m feeling pretty buzzed right now. I’m sure a lot of those who will chance upon this entry are starting to roll their eyes and say, ‘Yeah, yeah. He’s just gonna tell me that I need lots of traffic (http://thirdworldgeek.com/secret-little-tip-on-how-to-increase-your-alexa-page-rank/naruto) to up my Alexa ranking.” And you know what you eye-rollers are absolutely correct. However there’s some twist here and I’m sure you’re gonna come out the wiser for being a little more patient. I’m going to share you a secret aren’t I, so I’m a bit entitled to some little drama.

Ok, lest some of you roll your eyes, again, and think that I’m just spewing hot air in here, again, I’m just gonna cut to the chase and dive in.

As you have correctly surmised, to go anywhere near a respectable Alexa Page Rank, you need traffic. There’s no way around that. However, we’re not talking about your regular traffic here. There are some folks who have tons of traffic but are still showing dismal Alexa Page Ranks. There are blogs however who only show very little to moderate traffic but are showing really good Alexa Rankings.

Case in point is my little travel blog, Philippines Travel Blog. This blog I created sometime in December last year, which makes it around 8 months old. If you would look at its Alexa Ranking, it’s now hovering around 170K. A couple of weeks ago it was around 140K but that’s for another story. I believe I mentioned before in one of my Alexa Page Rank updates that I couldn’t understand why its Alexa Rank is so high when it’s only getting around 200 visits a day. Actually I had my suspicions but I didn’t want to jump to conclusions then. I have confirmed it now and thus this post.

Alright back to traffic. For your Alexa Page Rank to really get going you need to have a special kind of traffic. What I mean by this is that the traffic that’s coming to your site should be 1> varied, and 2> have the Alexa Toolbar installed. Varied traffic means that your traffic has to come from different geographic locations, not just from your area or country. I think Maki of Doshdosh.com mentioned #2 in his article, 20 Ways To Increase Your Alexa Page Rank, this is a very good read, though a bit outdated.

Ok, you’re probably thinking that all this is fine but how do we get varied traffic and visitors who have the Alexa Toolbar installed? Now this is the big secret. Actually it’s no big secret, I bet that some of you guys are already using it, but for a totally different purpose. I’m talking about Entrecard. If you already have Entrecard installed, good for you, if not, and you want to see some bump in your Alexa Rankings, this is a very good tool that you really should try out.

With Entrecard, you get to receive traffic from all sources (varied traffic), and I get the feeling that most of those who use this tool have the Alexa Rank Toolbar installed as well. Now this is no mere speculation. As I said earlier regarding my Travel Blog, it was hovering around 140K but the moment I stopped using Entrecard, Alexa Rankings started falling. I wonder why.

In closing, while Entrecard will certainly take you a couple of rankings higher in terms of Alexa Rankings, do not view it as a permanent tool. Sooner or later you need to get varied traffic independent of the Entrecard widget. Get those keywords working and optimize. Entrecard is good as a traffic startup tool but it is time consuming. There will come a time when you’ll grow tired of dropping them Entrecards, so be sure that you have the SEO basics covered.

Do Not Click Ads

10 Tips to Secure PC

TIP # 1 : Keep your software up to date
The first line of defense in keeping your computer as secure as possible is through regular software updates and routine system maintenance to help avoid data loss, new viruses, and other potential risks. The top two software applications you need to keep updated are your operating system (ex. Microsoft Windows) and your anti-virus solution.
For Microsoft Windows, we recommend that you run Windows Update or the new Microsoft Update. If you are using Windows XP, Windows 2000 SP3 or higher, or Windows Server 2003, we recommend that you activate Automatic Updates. The Automatic Updates feature in Windows notifies you when critical updates are available for your computer. Automatic Updates also allows you to speci fy the schedule that Windows follows to install updates on your computer.

To turn on Automatic Updates, on Windows XP go START -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates.

TIP # 2 : Use a Firewall
When someone on the internet or on a network tries to connect to your computer, we call that attempt an "unsolicited request." When your computer gets an unsolicited request, a Firewall application could block the connection. If you run a program such as an instant messaging program or a multiplayer network game that needs to receive information from the Internet or a network, the firewall asks if you want to block or unblock (allow) the connection.
If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, you can take advantage of Windows Firewall which is a protective boundary that monitors and restricts information that travels between your computer and a network or the Internet. TIP # 3 : Use anti-virus software
This can detect many, but not all, forms of malicious software before they have a chance to affect your computer.
Antivirus software is a program that either comes installed on your computer or that you purchase and install yourself. It helps protect your computer against most viruses, worms, Trojan. and other unwanted invaders that can make your computer "sick." Viruses, worms, and the like often perform malicious acts, such as deleting files, accessing personal data, or using your computer to attack other computers.

TIP # 6 : Create a "strong" password
The purpose of having a logon process is to establish who you are. Once the operating system or website knows who you are, it can grant or deny requests for services. If a bad guy learns your username and password. he can log on as you. In fact, as far as the operating system is concerned, he is you.
Sometimes we use simple passwords so it will be easy for us to remember them. Usual passwords include your name, name of your spouse or child, your birthday, your pet's name, your ID number. The problem with these passwords is that anyone who knows you could probably figure out your password given enough time. That is why these are also called "weak" passwords.

Tip # 7 : Keep your passwords safe
Your password is as important as your ATM PIN, or your front door key. You need to guard it well, and make sure nobody else gets hold of it.
As much as possible. memorize your password and do not write it down Some people not only wnte their passwords down, they put it in prominent places like on a small sheet taped to computer monitor. By doing so, you defeat the purpose of having a password.
Remember not to give out your password to ANYONE. It is also smart to change your password regularly.
Most people use the same password for all of their internet accounts. This is something we don't advise you to do. Just imagine what would happen if someone got hold of your password for one of your accounts? He or she would have access to all of your internet accounts.

TIP # 8 : Be suspicious of bogus E-Mail
Anyone, anywhere in the world, can register for an ISP account. and Internet email protocols allow anyone to send a message that appears to be from any other person. Don't assume an email from "Tito Boy" or "Manang Gloria" was actually sent from someone you know, and don't assume that an unsolicited message from user@hotmail. com was really sent by that account.
If an e-mail has a very small attachment and the message of the e-mail is practically empty. Just delete it. If the attachment is a ZIP file but it looks too small to contain a photo or document, just delete it. Despite who it seems to come from, chances are it is probably a virus.

TIP # 9 : Be suspicious of scams
Scams are a popular way of getting your personal information. The most common scams are fake login pages and forged emails that ask for your password, credit card number, or other sensitive information. Ignore anything you see that strikes you as questionable or suspicious.
If any e-mail asks for your usemame or password, do not respond or reply to these e-mail messages. Always confirm a transaction through your Bank. The intemet is also full of "get rich quick" scams. Just remember that if it seems to good to be true, it probably is. If you received e-mail from anyone claiming they will share with you millions of dollars if you help them out or follow a few simple instructions, this almost always is a scam in which you will gain nothing and could put you in financial or physical risk.

What is the Alexa Rank?

Put simply, the Alexa Rank is a ranking system which bases its ranking schema on the level of traffic each website receives from the number of people who visit a website with the Alexa toolbar installed.

What do the numbers mean?

Every site has a ranking by alexa , the smaller the number the better. For example google has a rank of about 50 , which is very good. You can find out what the rank of any site is by visiting their website , or if you install their toolbar. Ranks determine the amount of quality traffic, simply the more traffic you have to your site the smaller the number will be.

Why would you want to increase your Alexa rank?

If your going to be selling ads on your site your going to want a good alexa rank. When advertisers look for sites to advertise on , they are looking for sites that will be worth advertising at. Would you want your ad placed on a street that no one goes down? Or would you want your ad placed on the highway? Advertisers are looking to get their ad shown. Alexa rank shows what sites may be good to advertise on by their ranking.

Install the Alexa toolbar or Firefox’s SearchStatus extension and set your blog as your homepage. This is the most basic step.
Put up an Alexa rank widget on your website. I did this a few days ago and receive a fair amount of clicks every day. According to some, each click counts as a visit even if the toolbar is not used by the visitor.
Encourage others to use the Alexa toolbar. This includes friends, fellow webmasters as well as site visitors/blog readers. Be sure to link to Alexa’s full explanation of their toolbar and tracking system so your readers know what installing the toolbar or extension entails.
Work in an Office or own a company? Get the Alexa toolbar or SS Firefox extension installed on all computers and set your website as the homepage for all browsers. Perhaps it will be useful to note that this may work only when dynamic or different IPs are used.
Get friends to review and rate your Alexa website profile. Not entirely sure of its impact on rankings but it might help in some way.

Write content that is related to webmasters. This can fall in the category of domaining and SEO, two fields in which most webmasters will have the Alexa toolbar installed. Promote your content on social networking websites and webmaster forums.
Use Alexa redirects on your website URL. Try this: http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.doshdosh.com. Replace doshdosh.com with the URL for your website. Leave this redirected URL in blog comments as well as forum signatures. This redirect will count a unique IP address once a day so clicking it multiple times won’t help. There is no official proof that redirects positively benefit your Alexa Rank, so use with caution.
Post in Asian social networking websites or forums. Some webmasters have suggested that East Asian web users are big Alexa toolbar fans, judging by the presence of several Asia-based websites in the Alexa Top 500. I suggest trying this only if you have the time or capacity to do so.
Create a webmaster tools section on your website. This is a magnet for webmasters who will often revisit your website to gain access to the tools. Aaron Wall’s webpage on SEOTools is a very good example.
Get Dugg or Stumbled. This usually brings massive numbers of visitors to your website and the sheer amount will have a positive impact on your Alexa Rank. Naturally, you’ll need to develop link worthy material.
Use PayperClick Campaigns. Buying advertisements on search engines such as Google or Exact Seek will help bring in Traffic. Doubly useful when your ad is highly relevant to webmasters.
Create an Alexa category on your blog and use it to include any articles or news about Alexa. This acts as an easily accessible resource for webmasters or casual search visitors while helping you rank in the search engines.
Optimize your popular posts. Got a popular post that consistently receives traffic from the search engines? Include a widget/graph at the bottom of the post, link to your Alexa post or use Alexa redirection on your internal URLs.
Buy banners and links for traffic from webmaster forums and websites. A prominent and well displayed ad will drive lots of webmaster traffic to your website, which can significantly boost your rank.
Hire forum posters to pimp your website. Either buy signatures in webmaster forums or promote specific articles or material in your website on a regular basis. You can easily find posters for hire in Digital Point and other webmaster forums.
Pay Cybercafe owners to install the Alexa toolbar and set your website as the homepage for all their computers. This might be difficult to arrange and isn’t really a viable solution for most. I’m keeping this one in because some have suggested that it does work.
Use MySpace . This is a little shady so I don’t recommended it unless you’re really interested in artificially inflating your Alexa Rank. Use visually attractive pictures or banners and link them to your redirected Alexa URL. This will be most effective if your website has content that is actually relevant to the MySpace Crowd.
Try Alexa auto-surfs. Do they work? Maybe for brand new sites. I think they are mostly suitable for new websites with a very poor Alexa rank. Note that there be problems when you try to use auto surfs alongside contextual ads like Adsense. They aren’t also long term solutions to improving your Alexa Rank so I suggest using with caution.

I did some research before i posted all this , some of these tips are told to not help what do ever. If in some cases will decrease your ranking.

Ten Practical Tips for Writing in English

Online opportunities are not created equal. Although access to the Internet is open to everyone, and the cost of publishing your thoughts are minimal, language gives a huge advantage to those who have learned English as their first language. They can reach the whole world by writing in their own language. For the rest of us, it requires a bit more work.

I’m from Finland, a country of 5,2 million inhabitants at the northern end of Europe, right between Sweden and Russia, so when I started blogging, my decision was easy: if I wanted to reach more than a handful of people, I had to go with English. If you speak French, Spanish or Chinese, there is a bit more incentive for writing in your own language, but even then, the only way to reach the whole population of our planet is to write in English.

It’s not always easy, so that’s why today I am sharing with you the ten most useful and practical tips for writing in a foreign language that I have learnt during my blogging career.

1. Read in English

When you want to master a language, you can never read enough.

Every new book, short story or article you read teaches you new words, new ways to formulate sentences, and more natural ideas on how to use the language. They go to your subconscious and slowly start becoming more natural to you, until one day you notice that you start to think in English and know that you’re on the right track.

The easiest way to get started with reading in English rather than your own language is to pick up a non-fiction book on a familiar, interesting topic. Non-fiction tends to be easier to follow than fiction (fiction authors use tricky words to touch their readers’ feelings) and reading about a familiar topic makes it easier to guess what the author is trying to say to you when you don’t quite understand the words he’s using. Don’t use a dictionary unless you really have to – just skip the parts you don’t understand. If you make your reading feel too much like work, you’ll lose the fun in it, and the habit of reading won’t last for long.

2. Listen to native speakers

Blogging is a form of public speaking, which is why one of the best tips for making your text come alive is to write as you speak.

But if you don’t speak English every day, this is a rather tricky advice to follow. So, one thing I have found useful in practicing conversational writing is to watch and listen natives speak.

The Internet comes to rescue here through podcasts and videos from speaking events. Pick your favorite speakers and listen to them deliver their message. You will learn not only about how they use the language, but also how to captivate the audience, and a bit about the topic at hand.

3. When writing in English, think in English

This is one of the most important tips that separate a decent foreign language writer from a lousy one. The lousy writer thinks in his own language and then tries to translate his thoughts to English. But that simply doesn’t work: the idioms, grammar rules, and cultural differences make text written in this manner sound clumsy and unnatural.

Finnish is probably one of the extreme cases when it comes to grammar. In Finnish we concatenate a big part of words together (for example a railway station would be called railwaystation in Finnish) whereas English is full of small words. We have no future tense. We don’t use prepositions but suffixes… The list of examples could go on forever.

That’s why every time I set out to write in English, I push all my Finnish thoughts far to the background and don’t even look back. Then I pretend to be English speaking until the work is done and I can move back to my Finnish self.

I suggest you do the same.

4. Write

The best way to learn anything is by throwing yourself out there and practicing. With writing practice is even more important. In fact, I would give you the same advice even if you were considering writing in your native language. But of course, it’s even more important when writing in some other language.

When you are just starting out with your blogging, you should write something every day to really get your writing routine developed. After a while it’s OK to drop the pace a bit – although even then, if you want to become best at what you do, keeping up the habit of daily writing helps a lot.

Write in different styles: lists, humorous posts, serious posts, interviews, and if you have the time, even text that is completely unrelated to your blog (http://www.protagonize.com/). Just to get more practice.

5. Trust your gut

The human brain is an amazing machine.

You put in the source material by reading, listening to people talk, and speaking. Then you start writing your own blog posts and tune in the mind set of writing in English. And all of the sudden, words just start flowing from straight from your brain to the keyboard.

This can be a bit scary at first as you don’t know how you have learned the sayings and word plays you are using, and can’t be sure if they are correct or not. Uncertainty is the price you have to pay for trying to learn to use the language in a natural way. You just have to go with your gut and trust your brain when it keeps popping up words that you didn’t know you even knew.

I usually write freely on my first cycle, just trying to get the words and ideas out on paper. And then, on the second round of checking my text I drop sayings that sound too uncertain to me – or run them through a friend to see if they make sense or not. Usually they do.

6. Proofread

When you have finished writing your article and it seems nearly perfect to you, the next thing to do is to check it for typos, grammar mistakes, and just some plain weird sounding sentences.

The easiest way for checking for typos is to use a spellchecker:

If you have a word processor, you can use the spell checker that comes with it.
If you are using Firefox as your web browser, you can use the built-in spell checker support (http://www.wikihow.com/Install-a-Spell-Checker-Into-Firefox).
Another option for having a spellchecker in your browser is Google toolbar (http://www.freelancermagazine.com/toolbar.google.com).
And finally, if you are using WordPress as your blogging platform, you can use the spellchecking feature (http://wordpress.com/blog/2006/03/26/spellchecker/) built in to WordPress ever since version 2.1.

Checking for grammar mistakes is a lot trickier. What I do is that I usually check the grammar first in Microsoft Word or in an online tool (http://www.spellchecker.net/spellcheck/) and then go through it manually. For manually checking your grammar you can use a checklist of the most common grammar mistakes (http://www.ulg.ac.be/facphl/uer/d-german/remed/check.htm)(here’s another one http://www.xeromag.com/cheat.html) or just play it by the ear, depending on how much you trust your own English language skills.

And of course, if you want to play it safe, you can always ask one of your English speaking friends to double check your article once you have done all in your own powers.

7. Have English-speaking friends who are not afraid to correct your mistakes

The best way to learn to sound like a native is to hang out with them as much as you can. By paying a close attention to how they speak, you will learn the sayings they use, the slang, and even the jokes that they throw at you. All of this is important in making your English sound more natural and conversational rather than something learned from a book.

Instant messaging, e-mailing, or even chatting with them face to face, if possible, are all good ways to learn from friends. And the best part in all of this – you can do it while having a great time getting to know new, interesting people.

When you apply tip number five, having native friends to point out your mistakes gets even more important. Even my gut goes wrong every now and then, and at times like that I rely in my friends. When they notice something weird in my posts, they let me know and guide me to the right direction.

8. Study spelling and grammar

Yeah. I admit it, this doesn’t sound like a lot of fun at all. But to achieve greatness, you have to put in some effort. And in the end, the reward of learning and becoming more confident with your writing is really worth it. Go find the books you were using on your English courses back in school, or if you can’t find them, check if there are any good course books at the local library.

If you still want to go one step further, you can enroll to a language course. Just make sure to pick one that is mostly about creative writing, because that will get you moving faster towards your goal.

But you don’t have to go that far for good results. These days you can find pretty much everything on the web – also material for studying English. Check out these links to get started:

But that’s not all you can do with this brilliant web site. They have an interesting feature called reverse dictionary (http://dictionary.reference.com/reverse/) that looks up words when you write few words to describe their meaning, and a good list of further online resources (http://dictionary.reference.com/writing/) for writers to check out.
The Economist Style Guide (http://www.economist.com/research/styleguide/): The guide book given to all journalists who write for The Economist. Most of the advice applies really well to blogging.

With online services like these you will soon notice that learning English is indeed a fun activity that fuels your curiosity and gets you even more excited on your writing.

9. Commas and hyphenation – the tricky buggers

Commas are hard. Hyphenation nearly impossible.

The good thing here is that not even the English speaking bloggers always get these things right. But does that mean you don’t have to worry about them? No. If you want to be a great writer, you have to try to practice the hard things as well.

Let’s tackle hyphenation first: Definitive rules for how to do this right don’t even exist, so the trick I have adopted is simply to never do it. When blogging, you can always keep words in one piece and thus never make hyphenation mistakes.

Unfortunately you can’t get past commas and punctuation that easily. All you can do is to learn about using them and then always double check your text to see if your punctuation is correct.

10. Relax

Last comes the most important tip of all: Relax, and enjoy your writing. To be a great writer, you have to put in a lot of effort, but it’s not going to happen overnight. So, while you are practicing, don’t panic. Just write the best content you can with the skill set you have right now. Put it online on your own blog and learn more as you go.

Also, when you think about it, blogging is quite a forgiving platform: many of your readers are not from the English speaking parts of the world and won’t notice the small mistakes you make with things like prepositions or commas. Plus, people these days are busy. They don’t have time to stop and read every word you write. While that can be annoying in the sense that you can’t get their full attention, it also means that they won’t notice all of your mistakes either.

4. Buka Google.com harus .com untuk memperluas pencarian dalam bahasa inggris. dan masukkan kata kunci yang sudah kita dapatkan dari isnare.com tadi ditambah dengan keyword powered by wordpress untuk mempersempit pencarian hanya website yang dibuat dengan wordpress saja yang muncul.

5. Disinilah point pentingnya Kita mencari website yang dibuat dengan wordpress yang belum memiliki adsense dan selalu di update (lihat pada tanggal terakhir postingnya) minimal 1 bulan dibelakang, jangan mengambil website pada halaman awal, tetapi carilah di halaman ke 10 s/d. 20 keatas.

6. Kita buka website tersebut dan VIOLLA!!, websitenya belum ada adsense sama sekali. cocok!

7. Daftarkan segera di Google Adsense, buka Google.com/adsense

8. Isi dengan data kita dan nama website tersebut, INGAT! Nama HARUS sama dengan KTP untuk mempermudah dalam pencairan cek. dan gunakan email yang sudah kita buat tadi digmail.com

9. Jika semua sudah diproses dan selesai sampai di Thank you for your interest in Google Adsense.., maka kita cuma bisa berharap dan berdoa. proses ini gak akan memakan waktu lama, hanya butuh beberapa jam saja.

Repairing Your Site with Xenu Link Sleuth

With the huge sites we build over time with and for our clients, one of the most painful parts is keeping the broken links out.

There are online checkers that can handle small sites (up to about 50 or 100 pages) but when you want to scan a site with 300 or 500 pages or more, you need a desktop application.

We use and recommend the Site Audit tool inWebCEOfor advanced website checking, but a lot of the time, WebCEO is overkill. We don't care if our images have the alt tag. We don't care if our pages are considered slow right now.We just want to catch and fix the broken links.

In cases like this, we use Xenu Link Sleuth. Xenu Link Sleuth is a labour of love, created by an anti-Scientology programmer (every report contains a banner ad against Scientology). It's fast and reliable. Really fast.

For Xenu to do a maximum amount of good and not give too much useless information you need to get the settings right. Here are the ones we use:

Why these settings?

From the top:

Parallel threads should be reduced to 10 or less. Five is even better. With thirty threads, there is a good chance you will overwhelm you shared server.
Apply to all jobschecked: you don't want to have change these settings for every project.
Ask for password or certificate when needed will allow you to spider hidden parts of the site.Be careful about being logged in or not with Internet Explorer, or Xenu might go through your CMS. A properly written CMS shouldn't delete content without a confirmation dialog but this is an option to be careful about.
Redirections as errorsshould be off. While I do consider redirections errors for the most part, they are less urgent to address than broken links, especially internal ones.
FTP and gopher URLs. Should be checked. If you have these links, it would be good to know if they are working or not. I haven't had any large ftp links on any of our sites, so I don't know if Xenu downloads the whole file or just touches it to make sure there is something on the other end. Checking the documentation, apparently Xenu only gives a list of ftp files. Useful enough to do a handcheck.
Valid text URLswill give you a full list of all the URLs in your site. You don't need this.
Site Mapwill create a sort of sitemap based on site structure. It's generally not been satisfactory for modern sophisticated dynamic site. More confusing than anything else. Leave it turned off.
Statisticswill give you a very good summary of your scan.
Orphan Filesyou should always leave turned off. It can't handle ID type anchors which means it reports a lot of correctly working anchors as broken. The orphan files options has never given me any worthwhile information.

Very nice. Very simple. We aren't doing too badly here, at over 99% ok.

One reason this looks so good is thanks to Xenu Link Sleuth itself.

To get best use of Xenu Link Sleuth, you'll want to set it to browse external links, but make sure to add a list of URLs not to check in the same format as here (with http://):

The example above is only applicable to our sites. You'll have to include your own tracking services yourself. If you don't get this right, you'll get errors on every page and your reports will be next to useless. Make sure to include the http:// and then the full base URL of each service. Including shorthand like "google" or "statcounter" won't work. Trust us. We've tried it.

The simple solution to false errors on external linksis to turn offCheck external links. This way the off site trackers are not checked. But external links aren't checked either. It's worth the extra trouble to get it right. It might take you two or three tries, but once you've figured it out once, you will be able to run Xenu trouble free in the future (although sometimesI've had trouble getting theDo not check any URLs preferenceto stick).

Other worthwhile link checking alternatives to Xenu include

theW3C link checker. Online. Simple, straightforward, free. Times out after 100 pages.
the SEOMozCrawl test. Online. Unpaid version 5 pages. Paid version 50 pages. Very detailed reports. Nice formatting.
WebCEO. Desktop application. Most comprehensive reports. Unlimited crawling. Paid, multipurpose tool. Can be depressing as all get out - it finds every flaw in your website.

“Page Not Found” – Check Your Broken Links and Fix Them

Did you know that too much broken links can adversely affect your rank with search engines? What about your readers, what would they feel if they click a link and they arrived on a blank error page? Well, you have to do something, you have to locate those broken links and fix them.

Depending on the number of links you placed in your web pages or in your posts (or how big is your website), it is time consuming to check those links manually one by one, either internally or externally, but as much as possible you should always avoid the “page not found” error. If you are not messing up with your internal link structure, you should find no problems with the links you placed between your own web pages. But with external links, you have no control over the websites you have linked to. If they changed the URL of their pages, delete a page, move their website or if they closed down their website for good, those external links you placed pointing to their website will be a problem.

I will share with you a simple solution, there is a software that you can use to check your broken links, I know what you’re thinking, don’t worry, it’s absolutely free. The software is called Xenu Link Sleuth, it’s easy to use and you can immediately see those broken links and know where to start fixing them. It is really recommended to check all the links you created in your website regularly, you may not know who is reading your articles or posts and you don’t want your readers to be frustrated if the page they clicked is an error page “page not found“. When you start using this checker by the way, I recommend setting the Parallel Threads to 1 – 5 in the Options Menu – Preferences. And make sure you read the instructions and notes in its website carefully just to make sure the software works perfectly for you.

For those who are using WordPress in their paid hosting account, you can use the plug-in Broken Link Checker. It’s easy to use and again of course it’s free. But unlike the software mentioned above, with this plug-in you can set a time to check or monitor all the links in your web pages if they are valid. The default time is 72 hours, meaning all old links will be rechecked after this period expires which will check new links you placed as well.

I’m sharing this to you because I messed up with my internal link structure two days ago. I changed the operating system in my hosting account from windows to linux and this problem occured. I’m not really sure what happened but the permalinks in two of my websites became a mess. And you can imagine the agony in my face when each page I clicked in my recent posts showed the “page not found” error. Fortunately those two checkers are available and greatly helped me a lot. Not only did it help me fix my permalinks, I also discovered plenty of broken links to websites I have linked. Some pages were deleted and some were moved; although I was able to fix most broken links, some of them have to be deleted permanently.

I do hope you will enjoy checking those bad links of yours and try fixing them. Try to avoid being penalized by the Google and other search engines and try not to disappoint your readers when they get directed to an error page. Don’t miss any important articles, subscribe to my FEED.

First of all, it can sometimes be difficult to find a blog that best fits your current need. For example, doing an internet search for a blog on a specific topic could bring up hundreds of sites. Some will be large sites such as Blogger that host lots of smaller blogs, and you will have to weed through to find the one that you need.

Another problem with blogs is the content. A blog is intended to be a forum for expressing yourself to the world. Unfortunately, too many people tend to use it as a chat room between friends. They write all about local events and such and comment back and forth in that way. People also tend to use phrases and/or slang that is only familiar to their friends. 6 Things You Can Do Today to Drive More Traffic to Your Website for Free

Website (and business) marketing is not a one off exercise. Whether you have a brand new website or one that you’ve had for a while, you need to continue promoting it in order to bring you more visitors. You need to constantly work on it, fine-tune it, discard methods that are not working and implement new ones.

The following 6 methods are simple to implement and can be done for free by you today.

1. Email Marketing

Your first step should be to send an email to your existing clients announcing the existence of your website. You should also ask your customers to forward your email onto their friends, family and colleagues

Think Web Pages, not Websites

If you are starting a new business and don’t have any customers yet, send an email to people you know who may be interested in your offer.

Remember to email your clients every time you make changes, add new offers or features to your website to remind them to come back.

The next step could be to send your announcement to an opt-in email list. Opt-in email lists contain people or businesses who have requested to receive information about certain topic(s). There are many companies who can provide you with these lists.

Search engines try to rank sites that contain good content higher, so you need keywords and phrases on your pages that best describe your service and products. (d) The first paragraph of your home page.

(e) Meta tags - Keywords, description.

While it is important to use keywords as much as possible, it is also important you use them only if they are relevant and do not sound awkward. If you spam your keywords, you may be penalized or even banned by some search engines.

3. Link Exchanges

Find websites whose business complements yours and add their website to your links/resource page. Then contact the company and ask for a reciprocal link. For example if you are a wedding dress designer, you could contact businesses that sell wedding cakes, jewellery, flowers and also venues, celebrants etc. By doing this your website will become a valuable resource for your visitors, since it will provide information they need. They may return to your site over and over to find more information.

Results in search engines are determined by the material you have presented on your site and by other off-page factors such as how many other sites link to your site. The more links you have pointing to your site from relevant websites, the higher your site will rank.

Notepad mungkin hanyalah merupakan bidang putih sederhana yang hanya dapat diisi dengan sederetan teks yang tidak menarik dan membosankan. Akan tetapi, bagi sebagian orang, Notepad adalah senjata andalan dan piranti wajib yang harus dikuasai untuk mengerjakan suatu kegiatan tertentu. Sebagai contoh, kita dapat menjadikan Notepad sebagai virus maupun suatu aplikasi sederhana hingga program yang kompleks yang memilki banyak manfaat.
Pada posting kali ini, Embun akan mencoba menunjukkan kemampuan sederhana yang mungkin banyak dari kita yang belum mengetahuinya. Hanya dengan sedikit Syntax kita akan mengubah Notepad menjadi Diary kita yang akan mencatat secara otomatis tiap waktu kejadian yang kita tuliskan. Ingin tahu caranya, silahkan ikuti langkah-langkah berikut ini :

Yang dibutuhkan adalah Notepad dan kejadian yang ingin anda tuliskan pada Diary yang akan anda buat.
Bukalah Notepad dengan klik pada Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->Notepad.
Ketikkan .LOG pada Notepad kosong anda dan tekan Enter.
Tutup Notepad anda dan simpan dengan nama sesuai keinginan anda dengan format file .txt, misal : Diary.txt
Untuk mencobanya, buka lagi file yang telah anda buat.
Jika anda berhasil, akan tertera secara otomatis waktu ketika anda membuka file tersebut, yakni : pukul tanggal/bulan/tahun.
Tuliskan segala sesuatu atau kejadian yang ingin anda tulis pada file tersebut dan jika anda telah selesai, tutup dan simpanlah.
Ketika anda membuka lagi file yang telah anda buat tersebut, anda akan mendapati waktu ketika anda menulis catatan yang lalu tetap tercatat dan secara otomatis juga menampilkan waktu saat ini anda membuka Notepad. Hal tersebut akan terjadi secara continue yang secara otomatis menampilkan waktu yang lalu dan waktu ketika anda membuka Notepad saat ini.

But there are things you can do to overcome these obstacles such as blending your ads into the background, using bold colors for your ad titles, keeping the backgrounds and border colors of your ads the same as your page backgrounds. Think chameleon - make them a natural part of the page. This helps the eye to follow them - they are visually and integral part of the page - if they are too different from the page norm they will scream ADVERTISEMENT and the reader will skip right by them. Other tricks for having successful ads on your blog:
Place ads in close proximity to eye-catching content on your page, such as headlines and images.
Keep your pages uncluttered and dont be afraid of white space. Don't crowd your page content.
Wider ads are easier on the eyes, recommended sizes according to Google are:

300x250 medium rectangle
728x90 leaderboard
160x600 skyscraper

Mengatasi Error galat pada blog

Pernahkah anda atau mungkin sering mengalami suatu error galat bX-xxxx pada blog anda ketika sedang menyimpan widget atau edit html...?! Jika ya... berarti anda mempunyai masalah yang sama seperti yang pernah saya alami. Memang keadaan error galat pada blog tersebut, akan sangat mengganggu aktifitas kita untuk blogging. Saya kira itu akibat dari server atau komputer saya yang lambat ato ada kelainan pada sistem komputer. Bagaimana cara mengatasinya.....???

Memang belum ada keterangan yang jelas bagaimana cara mengatasi masalah tersebut. Tapi…ada saran sedikit berdasar pengalaman yang pernah saya alami, untuk mengatasi error galat tersebut coba anda dapat mencoba cara ini. Mudah – mudahan berhasil ya...

Oh..iya hampir lupa bagi yang belum tau apa itu error galat bX-xxxx, biasanya akan muncul kotak dialog seperti ini :

Nah.. cara yang memang sudah saya coba dan terbukti Ok untuk mengatasi error galattersebut adalah dengan menghapus / mendelete cookie pada browser anda. Jika anda menggunakan firefox seperti yang sering saya pakai, caranya klik tools --> options. Kemudian pilih tab privacy dan lihat ke bagian bawah ada menu cookies. Klik pada show cookies kemudian pilih remove cookie (bagian bawah). Mudah-mudahan dengan cara ini keadaan error galat bX-xxxx pada saat anda mengedit blog bisa diatasi....

Mari kita mulai dengan beberapa logika berikut ini. Internet sangat besar, dan Website sangat kecil jika dibandingkan internet. Tidak heran jika website sangat sulit tampil menonjol karena harus bersaing dengan milyaran website yang punya tujuan serupa. Biasanya pengguna menjalankan pencarian di Google untuk melihat website yang relevan dengan keyword yang dia masukan. Katakanlah dia menggunakan keyword “komputer”. Tentu saja tidak hanya beberapa website yang muncul, tetapi ada jutaan. Kalau sudah begitu, website mana yang akan menduduki peringkat paling atas? Google menjawab dengan mengeluarkan rumus PageRank.

Kita sudah ketahui bersama PageRank adalah sebuah algoritma yang diciptakan dan dipatenkan oleh Larry Page dan Sergey Brin, Sang duet maut pendiri Google. Penting bagi kita para webmaster untuk mengetahui cara kerja PageRank agar dapat kita gunakan untuk mendongkrak website kita. Berikut cara kerjanya.

Cara Kerja Rumus PAgeRank

Di balik PageRank tersembunyi pemikiran yang sederhana tapi jenius.

Untuk setiap website ada sejumlah website lain yang menempatkan link ke website bersangkutan.
Setiap website memiliki sebuah pagerank.
Link dari website B ke website A dihitung sebagai 1 suara dari B untuk A.
Selain itu, PageRank B memberi bobot suara untuk A. Semakin tinggi PR B, semakin tinggi pula kualitas link ke A.
Faktor lainnya adalah jumlah link yang terdapat di website B. Semakin sedikit, semakin baik untuk PR website A.
PageRank adalah pembobotan untuk semua dokumen di Internet. Jadi, semua dokumen punya PR. Mungkin saja suatu halaman website lebih besar PRnya daripada HomePage website itu sendiri.

Algoritma PageRank bisa dituliskan dalam rumus berikut:

PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(T1)/C(T1)+…+PR(Tn)/C(Tn))

Berikut penjelasannya. PR website A adalah jumlah PR website T1 sampai Tn, masing-masing dibagi jumlah link di website bersangkutan. Prinsip PR dapat diperjelas. Anggap saja di internet hanya ada 4 website A,B,C,dan D. Kita anggap saja keempat website tersebut punya PR 1. Dalam contoh pertama, website B,C,D masing-masing memiliki sebuah link ke A dan tidak memiliki link ke tempat lain (lihat gambar di bawah).

Apabila faktor peredam diabaikan, hasilnya adalah rumus:

PR(A)=1/1 + 1/1 + 1/1

Dikarenakan website ber-PR 1, dan hanya mempunyai 1 link ke A, maka angka yang dihasilkan adalah 1/1, diambil dari jumlah PR dibagi jumlah link. Sehingga jika dijumlahkan, website A mempunyai PR 3.

Contoh yang lebih Rumit

Website A memiliki link ke B dan C, B hanya memiliki sebuah link ke A. C memiliki link ke A,B,dan D. D hanya memiliki link ke B. (lihat gambar)

Rumus untuk A :

PR(A)= 1/1 + 1/3

Kita dapat melihat website yang memiliki link ke A adalah B dan C. B punya PR 1 dan hanya punya 1 link, sehingga angka yang dihasilkan adalah 1. C juga memiliki PR 1, tetapi dia punya link berjumlah 3, sehingga angka yang dihasilkan adalah 1/3. Jika dijumlahkan hasilnya menjadi 1,33.

Rumus untuk B :

PR(B)= 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/1

Well? What if I told you that you can drop much more faster than you used to, would you believe me? Try this for a change.

First you need to get Firefox . I think you already know that Firefox browser works faster than any other browser out there, am I right? Plus, there are a lot of add-ons out there to make it even more faster than it should.

Then you need to get this add-ons called NoScript and install it. Why do you need that? Well, for starter, have you ever got bored with all of those links around the EntreCard widget that pops up some sort of windows or snapshots when you’re trying to click the "Drop" button and the popup windows keeps blocking the "Drop" button? It’s like a land mine. All of the link bomb laying around it, if you makes a wrong move, BOOM!!! a popups windows will appear. This add-ons can fixed that annoying stuff from appearing and it will load the sites much faster when it blocked all those annoying scripts. Here’s how you should configure NoScript. You’ll find this in the NoScript options.

And you have to add "entrecard.com" and "amazonaws.com" in the whitelist!

Here’s the best part, disable all the image. If you’re a "Power Dropper" then you’ll love this. You know how much time you save when you disable that? A lot!!! Imagine that you’re loading a photography site, how long will it takes to load the sites with all the image? How can you do that? Here’s how. In Firefox, click "Tools" then "Options" and you’ll get this.

Deselect the option "Load images automatically" then click the "Exceptions" and add "entrecard.com" and "amazonaws.com" then click "Allow" because we need to allow the images from EntreCard. We don’t want to block it. Other than that, it will be blocked.

And the last tips, if you’re using your "Inbox" to drop your card then you should probably stop right here. But if you finished dropping from your "Inbox" and haven’t reach your 300 daily limit then continue using this method to fill it all. Use a bookmark! Not just a bookmark, but an organized bookmark. How does it work? Well, for the first time, it’s going to take a while to organized it. Once you’re finished organizing it then your drop will be much faster than before, I promise you that. First create a new folder in your bookmark and name it "Top Right" and in that folder create 10 folder groups in it. Do you see where I’m going here? Then create another folder and name it "Top Left" and "Scroll Right" and "Scroll Left" and "Bottom Right" and finally "Bottom Left" and create 10 folder groups in each of those folder just like the previous one.

Now, go on and bookmark your favorites sites. See where the widget is and bookmark it and arrange it in a proper category. If the sites have the widget on the top right then save it in the "Top Right" category folder. Go figure! Bookmark all you want, and save at least 20 or 30 sites in your folder group so that you can open it all at once later. So, how is that going to make you drop faster? Simple, you’ll know where the widget is located without having to search for it everytime you load a site. How much time have you wasted there when you’re searching for the widget when you’re not using an organized bookmark?

To make your life easier or if you’re lazy enough or you’re screwed and don’t know how to create your own organized bookmark, here’s an organized bookmark that I’ve saved using my "Inbox" for the past couple of weeks.

Another updated tips that I forgot to mention. When you’re using Firefox and open the bookmarks using the "Open All in Tabs" it will open all the sites in multiple tabs. To close down the multiple tabs, use CTRL+F4 or CTRL+W (Windows user) after you click the "Drop" button. That way, you don’t have to move your mouse over the "x" close tabs button. Just focus your mouse to the "Drop" button and let your other hand do the CTRL+F4 clicking to close down the tabs. That will surely speeds up your dropping for sure.

So, how to import the bookmarks? Here’s a simple guide.

In your Firefox "Bookmarks" menu, select "Organize Bookmarks…" or you can press the shortcut key CTRL+SHIFT+B and it will open this window.

See that? Select the "Import HTML…" and this window will pops!

Now, select "From an HTML File" and click "Next" then select the "EC-bookmarks.html" file that you’ve just downloaded and click "Open" and you’re done! Check your bookmark and see if there’s a new category named "EntreCard Bookmarks"

When setting up your website for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) on Google there are several factors you need to look at in order to obtain a high rank on their search engine. Of course your content and meta tags must be inline with positive density percentages and reciprocal links. Google then takes your website and performs a mathematic equation and places a numeric value on your website depending on one of the most important features, reciprocal or back links.

A back link and reciprocal link are identical. They both say the same thing to the Google engine, that your site should be ranked higher in the order because other people find value in what your website has to offer, thus they provide a link to your site. In turn, you keep a closed loop by reciprocating the favor to the other website by extending the same courtesy of a back link. Thus creating a solid network connection. Google likes to see interconnectivity and will reward your website well for planning it this way.

There are drawbacks to the equation. As things change a website that you are affiliated with may drop a hyperlink or a page may get accidentally deleted. SEO always start with Keyword Research. So, how to find the right keyword for your website from a bunch of list that presented to you. People tend to search for a specific term, rather than a general or generic term. Sometimes they use their own phrases - some obvious and some obscure - to search the term they're looking for.

Ok. Let's start picking up the right keyword for "dog training" keyword. Should we use "dog training"? We'll be analyzing the keywords. So, what is the quick and easy way to choose the right keyword?

Let's look at the below result chart that I gathered from some of the tools that I used. Let me explain for the term at the above.

KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index)

KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index) is found by Sumantra Roy, a respected Search Engine Positioning specialist from 1st Search Ranking. KEI compares the searches result with the number of competing web pages and from this point we can spot which keywords are the most effective for your website.

The higher the KEI, the more popular your keywords are and less competition they have, which means you have a better chance of getting to the top of the list by using the keyword.

You should be careful when you want to analyze keyword using KEI, because broad match (keywords and phrases entered without punctuation e.g. dog training) will presents a distorted picture of the competitiveness of a keyword even though it is an effective way to reach a wide audience. Why? Search engine will return for sites that contain individual words of the keyword (dog, training), plurals or synonyms of the keyword that you typed, other words included in the query (e.g. dog training behavior) or not in the same sequence as you typed (e.g. training dog). KEI analysis is better in exact match searches. Exact matching is enclosing in brackets your keywords or phrases. Example: [dog training].

KEI can help you choose the keywords but you should not rely too much on it. If the KEI for a keyword is high, it might not a good idea of using it if your top rank competitors are very big players. One more problem is when the keyword become more popular (more search) and more competitive (more web results) at the same time, it will show the same KEI number sometime, but actually the competition is already a bit tough (the divider or total webpage competing is getting bigger) and the chance to get in top 10 lists in search engine is lesser. Use common sense when you picking your keyword.

R/S (Result/Search) Ratio

Next term will be R/S (Result/Search) Ratio. This is the ratio number of website with a specific keyword on their pages divided by the time a keyword is searched. The lower the number, the better it is to use as a term for optimizing a page.

Another thing that you must also remember is that, try to pick keyword which is not a general term, but rather more specific keyword phrases (long tail keywords). By following the guidelines above, high KEI, low R/S, 3 to 4 words phrases, I've highlighted the keyword (in red color - in the picture above) which I found to be most effective to be optimize for your website.

Finding the right keywords is a very important step in SEO. Take some time to find the best keywords and then optimize your pages for these keywords to get a high ranking in any major search engine.

Only when you have done your market research can you go about creating (or having created for you) your niche product.

So how do you go about researching your market? Well in the good old days there was the Overture Search Engine tool which was taken over a few years ago by Yahoo. This tool was a God send to internet marketers as it was absolutely free to use and would give you an idea of how many people searched on a the key word you put in and on related key words. Sadly this search tool is no more so lets look at the alternatives:

If you are really serious though you need to invest in a paid service which will give you much more scope for finding the right keywords and digging for key word phrases for your niche product marketing.

2. Your navigation should be easy and simple.

How Google Adsense Detect Clicks by Codes

After several months being a Google's Publisher from Google AdSense, now I want to write something about Google AdSense. Do you realized recently Google AdSense has new trick to identify valid click and store these clicks information with some code. So, every click has different ID and it store in google database. Base on these database, Google AdSense Team will analysis every data to make sure where'is counted as valid click or fraud.

Recently, end of February I guess (I'm not really sure since when), Google detect click ID with some code that we can see... these the sample :

It always same code..begin with "&gclid="

With my experiment, google will count click if visitor explore more deep about click, and these will indicated by &gclid= code disappear.

So, if I a visitor and click a Google Adsense ads, as normally I'll go to the Advertiser Site. At the first, google code will detect click ID with &gclid= code. After I click link in from that first page (home), ex : click contact or..click some product, then &gclid= will disappear. These click will counted by google.
But, If I don't click a link (to show how interest I'm), then that click will not counted!

Even your visitor click has been counted in your Earn Report, it still not a guarantee Google AdSense will pay you. They will analysis again before the payment date. They need to sure that your visitor click is a valid click..(ex :come from a Search Engine, browse your page, then click google adsense ads). If they detect that click was a fraud, then they will not pay you.. The money will return back to the advertiser. Google doing these analysis step by accessing their database base on "&gclid=" code.

Six ways to experiment with AdSense and grow you earnings

Welcome to our first-ever guest blog post on Inside AdSense. We're thrilled to have none other than Blogging Evangelist himself, Darren Rowse, to share his expert tips on AdSense optimisation.

Darren first discovered blogging in 2002, and initially thought he'd turn it into a hobby to supplement his full-time job. These days, Darren runs a handful of successful blogs, his most popular being Digital Photography School, and has co-authored a book. He also posts regular tips and advice on ProBlogger.net, a respected and successful resource for bloggers around the world.

We recently caught up with Darren at his home office in Melbourne Australia, and asked him about his experience with Google AdSense.

October 4, 2003 is a date I'll never forget - that was a day that my life changed. It was the day that I discovered AdSense and added it to my very first blog. I added that first advertisement to my blog on a whim, with what I thought was the lofty dream that I might be able to pay for my blogs hosting costs. Over 5 years later, those little text ads have paid my mortgage, fed my family, and enabled me to move my blogging from a hobby, to a part time job, to a full time job and beyond.

It's not been an 'overnight success' by any means but as I've learned to use it, AdSense has been one of my highest online income streams.

My #1 Tip for Using AdSense

If I had to narrow my advice on using AdSense down to a single word it would be 'experiment'. Let me explain.

That day back in October of 2003 I had no idea on what I was doing. The next day when I logged in to see how much I'd earned it was barely enough to buy me a coffee.

However, on that day I decided that those few dollars in earnings showed potential and I determined within myself to learn how best to use AdSense to grow that income. Almost everything I've learned since that day has been through trial and error.

It has been a long process of testing and tracking results. You see, while there are a few good home truths that seem to work on most sites, every website that I've used AdSense on is different. Some things work well on some sites, but it is rare to find something that will work on every site. As a result I tend to experiment with my use of AdSense in these six ways:

Ad Position - Most AdSense publishers have seen the neat little heat map that AdSense has produced to show where ads work best on websites. In general it works fairly well and is a great place to start, but make sure you experiment with new positions for ads and see what works best for your site.

Hint: Ads near (or even surrounded by) content have worked the best. I've also found ads at the end of content perform well. People get to the end of reading your article and then are looking for something to do or click -- an ad positioned there can work well.
Numbers of Ads - More ads earn more than less ads... don't they? Unfortunately it isn't always the case.

Test different combinations and numbers of ad units on your site. There's usually a 'tipping point' where you hit a ceiling of how many ads your users will accept -- push it too far and you could hurt reader engagement, traffic, and in the long run your earnings. On the flip side of this, don't be afraid to have more than one or two ads on a page, particularly if you have long pages with lots of content.
Ad Design - I can still see the first ads that I first used on my blog back in 2003. I can still see them because they fried their imprints into my retina -- they were so LOUD!

I figured that the ads would do best if people noticed them so I went for the most crazy color scheme I could come up with. Over the years I began to experiment with different combinations of ads and found that more subtle or blended ads tended to work best for me. Having said that, you can sometimes blend too much, to the point that the ads become invisible to your reader. So test different colors and designs of ads to see which work best. Use the ad rotating tool that AdSense offer publishers to rotate different designs to work against ad blindness among regular readers.
Ad Sizes - AdSense offers us a range of different ad sizes, so experiment with them all to see which works best. Hint: Some might think that the bigger the ad the better it performs. This is not always true.

For example, I found that the 'large rectangle' ad (336 x 280) didn't work as well for me as the smaller 'medium rectangle' ad (300 x 250). It turns out that more advertisers (at least those in my niche) prefer the medium rectangle ad as it's a more standard ad unit size than the larger one. Again, the key is to experiment and see what works best for your site and niche.
Ad Formats - I've found that choosing image and text ads works better than just choosing text ads, but that's not the only choice we get as AdSense publishers.

AdSense also allow us to run link units, AdSense for search, etc. I've found that each of these different formats will work differently from site to site. I've had blogs where the link unit ads were the best performing units on the site while on other sites it didn't really perform at all. You'll never know unless you test it!
Which Content Converts? - One of the best advances that AdSense has made in the last year has been the integration between it and Google Analytics. To be honest I'm still digging into the metrics that this opens up, but the insight that this gives has amazing potential to increase earnings.

By looking at this data you can see what type of content is converting and what isn't. You can also see what type of traffic is converting and what isn't. For example, I've found that search engine referrals are converting better than traffic from social media sites on one of my blogs. Knowing this is powerful as it tells you what type of ads to serve to what types of traffic, what type of promotion to put effort towards, and what type of content to write more of.

Test Track Test Track....

There are books, blogs, articles, forums, and other kinds of resources available to AdSense publishers to help them learn how to use AdSense better. However, in my experience the best way to learn is to 'do'. Put time aside to try new things and then put more time aside to review what you learn.

But don't leave it at that. When you learn something -- test it against something else (do some research on A/B split testing to learn how to do this). This continual learning will help you to grow in your own expertise of AdSense and increase your earnings.

After a few days Google Japan has forced to stop the campaign. Google Japan was caught buying blog posts in a promotion campaign by Google HQ. As a result, Google Japan gets penalized with pagerank reduction from PageRank 9down to PageRank 5.

This is not the 1st time Google takes its action against PayPerPost. When Google penalized its own Google Japan is that mean that the PayPerPost has come to its end ?

Mempertahankan pagerank blog untuk paid review

Menyambung artikel kemarin, kita sedikit tahu bahwa Google boleh dibilang “menyatakan perang” dengan makhluk aneh bernama paid review. Secara logika, sebenarnya Google lah yang berada di jalan yang benar. Soalnya, dia pengen memberikan hasil pencarian sebagus mungkin untuk para penggemarnya. Sementara, kita sebagai pemain paid review terlihat menghalang-halangi langkah baik Google ini.

Nggak apalah, lha wong kita n Google sama-sama pengen cari uang koq. Seperti yang kita tahu, setiap masalah itu pastiada jalan keluarnya. Ketika Google bertindak kejam terhadap blog yang digunakan untuk paid review, maka langkah kita adalah melwannya. Dengan kata lain, kita mesti tahu bagaimana cara mempertahankan pagerank blog kita yang merupakan senjata utama untuk paid review.

Sebenarnya, kalau kita mau sedikit cari tahu, nggak susah-susah amat koq mempertahankan pagerank ini. Cara pertama!!! Yang saya tahu, pagerank itu paling dipengaruhi oleh link masuk, makin banyak link masuk, kemungkinan pagerank naik semakin besar. Artinya, ketika kita menulis sebuah review dan kita membuat link keluar, kita harus mengimbanginya dengan link masuk. Kalau kita membuat review dengan 3 link ke situs lain, alangkah afdholnya kalau kita juga mencari 3 link masuk ke blog kita. Lebih bagus lagi kalau lebih dari 3 link. Makanya, setiap kali saya habis meriview, saya biasa menggunakan fasilitas dari growurl untuk mencari backlink. Kesimpulannya, kita mesti bisa mempertimbangkan antara jumlah link masuk dan link keluar. Dan memperbanyak link masuknya. Cara ini mirip2 dengan cara yang dilakukan mas Tony.

Cara kedua!!! Yang saya tahu lagi, halaman blog/situs yang diindex pertama kali oleh Google adalah halaman homepage. Jadi, usahakan jangan meletakkan link di bagian homepage. Hal ini bisa diakali dengan cara memotong postingan (itu lho, biar ada tulisan read more…). So, posting kita tetep mengandung link tetapi link diletakkan di bagian single page, bukan di homepage. OK! paham kan bro! Atau bisa juga dengan menyembuyikan postingan paid review tersebut. Caranya??? Loe buka aja si Google, trus ketik “cara menyembunyikan postingan paid review”. MEskipun postingan kita tetep keindex sama google, tapi minimal tidak diindex sebagai bagian dari homepage.

Cara ketiga!!! berdasarkan pemahaman saya, yang penting semua cara yang bisa mengkatkan pagerank. So, kalau suatu cara bisa meningkatkan pagerank, maka bisa diasumsikan bahwa cara itu juga manjur untuk mempertahankan pagerank. Ex; posting reguler.

Cara keempat!!! seperti yang dibilang oleh mas Chodirin, salah satu hal yang mebuat Google mngira bahwa suatu postigan itu merupakan paid review adalah jumlah kata yang digunakan. Biasanya, agar review diterima min. mengandung 200 kata. Tapi, ada juga yang 50 kat udah cukup. So, buatlah postingan paid review lumayan panjang. Minimal 250 katalah….

Nah…. sejauh ini, langkah-langkah di atas cuman asumsi ditambah pengalamn 3 bulan berbisnis paid review. Jadi, silakan aja kalau mau nyoba. Trus, kalau belum puas silakan kunjungi sendiri blog-blognya para master. OK bro! semoga bermanfaat.

Making Money with AdSense — Tip #7:
Think about segmenting your sites: making some pages for high search engine traffic, other pages to sell products, and still other pages just for Google AdSense.

To implement this, you’ll need to recognize that different pages on your site can have different purposes. You may have pages designed to sell specific products. Others may be designed to rank high in the search engines (but don’t ever try to trick the search engines). Still others can be designed for Google AdSense.

Now, once you know which pages you’re creating for AdSense, your job is simple; select an appropriate keyword (or key phrase).

Then you’ll use that keyword as the file name and put dashes between the words. You would use the file name like ‘water-gardening.html’ for your water gardening page.

Best case scenario is that you’re able to select keywords that are the highest paying keyword on the topic. By tweaking the file name, you may be able to improve your AdSense results dramatically.

Making Money with AdSense — Tip #8:
Knock yourself out to make high quality information pages.

The ideal Google AdSense page should have great content about a very specific topic. Take pains to be very clear about what the topic is, and carefully choose the keyword (or key phrase) describing the topic. Users don’t like vague pages that don’t make it very clear what the page is all about.

Don’t even think about trying to ‘trick’ AdSense. They have penalties, including getting kicked out. Don’t create a page on one topic and give it a file name about a different topic—that’s too confusing.

In a nutshell, you want to make sure the page you create offers great value to people interested in the topic. When you provide excellent information on a specific topic, your visitors will benefit and will be more likely to click through to relevant AdWords.

Making Money with AdSense — Tip #9:
Select vertical AdWords format.

Everyone’s seen way too many horizontal banner ads up top. Thus, Google recommends you choose the vertical — not horizontal — format to display your AdWords. I agree. People have become “banner blind” to a horizontal format. Plus, Google has “trained” us to click on relevant text ads on their own site and they use the vertical format.

Making Money with AdSense — Tip #10:
Make sure you display AdWords prominently.

It’s to your financial advantage to put the AdWords near the top of your page on the right. Make sure there is enough “breathing room” — i.e. white space around the ads — so that they will easily attract your visitors.

Making Money with AdSense — Tip #11:
Just don’t do it–don’t cheat.

I know it’s tempting, because it seems so easy and it’s just sitting there waiting for you to do it, but do not click on the AdWords displayed on your own site to increase your revenue. Google (rightfully) frowns on this.

Plus, Google has some of the smartest engineers around, and they are very good at detecting this kind of fraud. And really, for an extra $1, is it worth getting kicked out of a money-maker like AdSense? I think not…

In conclusion, I want to say that these strategies can help you maximize your revenue from Google AdSense. And I personally guarantee that you’ll have a whole lot of fun creating content pages on topics you have a passion for.
